  1. I am looking at rear mounting the radiator on my 300TDI 90 truck cab and can not find much helpful information on Google, the truck is only used for challenge events so am concerned on reliability, performance and cost in that order.

    What is the best solution????????????

What about the oil cooler and intercooler??????

What do you do with the small pipe on the rad?????

Can you use the existing rad????

Any success stories or pictures would be appreciated

  2. Hi guys i am going to cut the crossmember off as its a bit rusty. my other reason is because i have whacked it pretty hard a few times now and want to do a small bobtail off it by removing about 3 inchs.

has anyone done this? any tips / advice?

it looks pretty easy as i have a side exit exhaust and only removing 3inches means there are no body mountings to re do..

my plan is to literally cut it off and then drill the rivets on the rear tub cut 3inches off everything and re weld it back on / re rivet... do you think it will be this easy?

(mine is a soft top truck cab) - not a fan of tray backs

    thanks in advance

oh there was a guy on here selling home made crossmember if he reads this ill buy it.

I did mine with some 100x50x3 box section and some folded sleeves down the chassis rails and its held up well to a good battering, but it is as easy as you say just don't set the wiring loom on fire as I did, you will be surprised at how much crud is inside the chassis. Good luck

  3. I agree with chris on this and have myself learnt the hard way, 9 times out of 10 cheapest is usualy the most expensive in this game.By a cheap winch with the brake in the drum and melt a rope on a long drop and your half way to an 8274 if your still in one piece.

Chris tell em how much rope you carry on the rear winch, hardly worth having one

But on the "throwing good money away theme" how many clouds of smoke have you seen at events and playdays from these BARGAIN Chinese imports at £300+ going up in a puff of smoke, no spares available, guarantee not worth the paper it's written on ,"chuck it in the skip mate, and put it down to experience", for not much more and a bit of quality time spent waiting to pounce as Dan says on a cheap Warn 8274 because they do come up every now and then and are well worth the wait and money.

Take into account comp entry fee's and costs of travelling etc thrown away on a cheap winch because it fails early in the day, and could leave you in a awkward spot, then perhaps common sense says wait until your properlly equipped, and no I don't have a bad word to say about TDS/Goldfish winches belting bit of kit, just not my choice,

both my 8274's were second hand re-serviced models.

I sometimes feel a bit gutted for folks when these cheapo winches let go after a very minimum work out, nobody likes to see a blokes money thrown away,

so best advice is scan the ads and save up Pal, but go for a branded winch with full spares and a reputation, choice is yours......

  4. lets see if i can last more than 1 punch this time before the autobox dies

Did you get a punch last year Dan :unsure: You need to get back to the manual TDI's mate.

Never mind if i remenber correctly I didnt finsh on sunday after picking on a tree that was bigger than me and the truck together:blush: But it was a superb event and real good social, would recomend to any one!

  5. I have been asked to organise an AWDC team to compete in the upcoming Interclub challenge. If you are interested then please let me know on here or you can contact me on 01252 325930 or e-mail to sales@challenger4x4.com.

I competed in this event last year and can say that it was just about the most enjoyable event of the year, great format, great site and really well set out. more details about the event can be found on this forum in James`s post.

    Regards Paul

    Hi Paul

I Will Be up for it :)

  6. What club are you a member of I will check the list and see if you are on it?

If its been 10 days or more since you applied for a licence and you havent had an email saying it being processed then I suggest you ring the MSA on 01753 765000 there is an option for licences.

Am a member of AWDC, challenger, extreeme landy and MSA arrived today finally but thanks for the advise, does the co-driver need to be a member of owt?.

Is there an option to camp or do you need digs?

    Thanks

  7. This has proberbly been discused before but has anyone had any experiences with the Llama 4x4 Hydro assist steering kit, dont want to go full hydro because of the mechanical link that alot of event organisers like, the Llama kit looks the part and seems to be reasonable value for money but I have never seen it installed on a truck.

    Thanks Chris

  8. i'd be stupid enough to team up with you chris seen as both of our 90s seem to have abit removed from the back end

ill also second to your view about coyney green too, ive been there twice now, and the venue is more than enough to cater for alot of competitors,

its how its set-up/run that counts more so than the sight imo

    dan

You might have a deal there Dan but you need to loose a bit of that prop/auto box eating TD5 power though :P:P

  9. You can count me in Mr Nick just have to find a culprit to team up with, when do you think you will be firming up the dates?

Have done 2 events at Coney Green farm now both run by xtremelandy and they were fantastic, well organised and also very good socially, I would challenge anyone who says that the sites not suitable for this type of event if its set out with a bit of imagination (and a digger :D:D:D ) it will be raw the lads at xtremelandy have been doing this for years.

It seems predictable that everyone with a trayback says that it makes no advantage at all :rolleyes: or is it just that since they fit the traybacks that the didnt get any better :lol: , in my opinion the lads with traybacks have a very agresive driving style knowing that very little damage can take place and do seem to complete tight stages and punches quicker than us standard bodied trucks.

Cant see a problem with traybacks against tubs, the end results will certainly put an end to the theorys ;)

  10. As last year another fantastic event :):):) , well done to Nick Anderson and Nev for securing first place(Just  ). Well done to Nick and the crew from xtremelandy for ensuring that all went well and setting out an event for all levels, Col and Ros for a superb barbeque and all the sponsers for some top prizes.

Was good to catch up with all the usual culprits, but not good to camp on site, Saturday night was ffff freezing. :(:(

Cant wait to here more about the king of the tray backs event thats going to be held next year :) and who will be competing, or not ;) I know that I will even though I dont have one ;) .

    Has anyone got any pictures?

  11. fantastic event as usual, many thanks to the Challenger 4x4 crew for looking after us all so well, some very competative action for a clubman event but was good to see a few of the big boys playing out and learn some new tricks from them, as for damage most things on the truck are now broken, the old boilers going to be in dock for a while now but I am sure she will live to see another event. Once again many thanks to Paul, Lucy and the team for puting together another extra special event.
