  1. i was thinking of putting the rear windows in mine like that, got a set, but could do with new rubbers does anyone know the best place for getting the replacement rubber? if so does it come in lengths or is it cut and bent to fit windows already? if they come in lengths might make my own instead similar to the mud ones

  2. i was always under the impression that 100A was too big on a V belt and better to go multi belt. i ran 90A one no problems on a 200tdi, having said that i think Ralph runs a 100A ok on his with V belts. Did it snap belts with the old alternator?

no it never snapped with the old one, but i don't know when the fan seized and caused the play in the water pump!! prob same time as old alternator seized!!!

  3. my old alternator packed up after the peterbourough land rover show, so bought bought a bigger 100amp one which after a bit on tinkering got to fit, this then shredded the first new belt, which was a standard one from a motor parts shop, and i could not quite get tight enough as was a bit to long, so went to my local bearing belt shop and bought a slightly shorter but 13mm wide one which fitted lovely and i could get tight, this has been fine for a while but last few weeks been smelling burning rubber so re tightened belt, this has now completly shedded off this morning. To add some extra information to the problem i have also just added electric fans and removed the vicous one but when i removed it,i noticed it was jammed solid and was running wonky which has left the bit it was mounted to with about 4mm play the actual water pump is not leaking but i am assuming the bearing in side is shot, it still spins freely so this is not breaking the belts, could it be that the play in this though is causing the belt to slip on the alternator, this is where its slipping as there is a lot of rubber dust on & arround it, the belt has worn in just 2 places roughly opposite each other. i'm assuming that this play is not right and so changing water pump is on the cards or can i just change the bearing, and is this the cause of the belt failure on the alternator or is it that the alternator is to big for a v belt (its a 200 tdi) any suggestion would be apreciated, i'm off to buy another belt so as i can drive home!!!

  4. I am gutted i can't see it, i've been a member for over a year but never really have much to say, but enjoy reading and looking at the site every day, and so don't post much, and now i can't see a part of the site, unless i post stuff just for the sake of getting my post count up, which will then fill the site with pointless post making it harder to search for somthing, than again starting another post with a topic that already been discussed!!

well this has at least got me one more post count!!

  5. I only ever got around to doing the driver and pasenger door on my truck but I have got the kit for doing the rear door from a comany off the web that also do after market leci windows. Its abit of a job as you have to drill the rear lock open and weld a braket on the little black leaver on the inside.

My thort (one day) would be to use a TD5 rear door as the trim panel is designed for it.

    Mark

Ii have also done this and used the standard locking mechanism for the rear door, i drilled out the little tab that locks door and fabricate a bit of stiff wire to operate it i will take some photo and post!!

  6. I would check the bulb holder first - they corrode like mad. Take the bulb out, replace the fuse, and switch the sidelights on. If the fuse doesn't blow, then the bulb holder is the problem.

    Les.

ive taken the bulb out and it seems ok and the brake light still works on the left side so i'm guesing the back light holder is ok, and the front didn't look corroded to me!!

  7. my left hand side lights fuse has blown and blew new one straight away, i guess it a wire worn through i've checked the lights them selves and are ok has anyone experianced this before or could you give me the most likely place to look for dodgy bit of wire where it could have worn through the casing, wanted to try and sort out as going to LRO show tommorow night after work and as its getting dark early wanted to get it sorted!!

  8. i,m interested in fitting kl71 tyres on my standard 90 they recomended 265/75r16 which are not much different size to my 235/85r16 AT i have at the moment, they say i need to do modifications to fit the 33x12.5r15, i am thinking of lifting the car in the future, but would like some better tyres first what are the actuall mods i require as the tyre center couldn't tell me?i don't mind doing a bit of cutting here and there as long as it not to drastic! and what wheels would be most suitable? i was looking along the line of modulars. and one last question what do you do for a spare as the tyres are directional so if the wrong direction gets punctured what do you do?

sorry for another tyre post but have searched best i can and couldn't quite find the answers!!
