Hello all I want to change the rather boring standard radio/cassette in my wifes GS Freelander and wondered what i could change it to. At the moment it has the steering wheel controls and the seperate CD multichanger under the passenger seat. Is there a half decent looking head unit that can work with the above steering controls and work the CD changer or will i loose all of that. Thanks

Hello all After reading some of the posts on this forum last night i read with interest about the VCU unit,so today i took the wifes 2002 1.8 3 door out for a spin and tried putting full lock on and turning slowly. Guess what it felt like somebody had slightly put the brakes on,there are no other noises or whines when driving apart from i thought the engine felt as flat as a F--t and couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding!!!!!!!!!!!! i have never driven a Freelander off road but i wouldnt think they would be any good as it seems flat. Anyway i live close to a couple of dealers one your average second hand car dealer with a 54 plate 3 door 1.8 with 27000 miles on the clock and the other a main dealer with a 05 plate TD4 with 30000 miles on the clock,i had a couple of our to kill so thought it would be intesting to test drive both of them compared to my wifes car which has 71000 miles on the clock. Both did exactly the same when on full lock going slow!!! and apart from the deisel feeling like it had a bit more go in it there was nothing to tell between them on the driving front. So do i assume my VCU is ok or were all three cars knackered??????????????? If it is knackered i have had a look on Fleebay and there are reiar kits for sale,Are they any good and could i repair my self at home on a bench Cheers

can anybody tell me what type and spec of oil i need to replace the above also quantity also is it a big job or can it be done on the the drive withe ramps thanks

Hello all Does anybody know the wheel details for the Freelander offset pcd etc Also whats the widest anybody has fitted? I dont want to go taller ie 17in 0r 18 in i want to go wider!! I think they look awfull with the skinny wheels and i want to fit some chunky type to fill the arches out Cheers

Hello All I am new to this forum and new to Freelander ownership having just bought an 02 plate Hardback I have read all the stories about the 1.8 engine being a pain but to be honest it doesnt bother me as i have rebuilt a few of these engines for my Caterham kit car. Could anybody tell me how you programme a 17tn keyfob,is it the one that the dealer has to do (just my luck) or is there a sequance that you do to programme it? If its the first option how much do they charge? an arm and a leg probably after i was told they chare £1200 to do a head gasket robbing sod's!!!!!!!!!! Thanks
