  1. It stops dead after a few hiccups. In the beginning when I bought it (2nd hand) it did not run on petrol. I thought that the needle and other parts in the carburattor were dirty or so. Wanted to overhaul it myself but gave it out of hand finally to not mess it up urther. After fixing iat ran rather well but after a longer trip (some hours) the problem became as it is now. Working for several minutes (10-15 min). What is the result of a sign. dried out carb?
  2. My Defender has an 2.5 petrol engine ('91) but also runs on gas. Gas as always easy and always running. Switching over on petrol however gives some problems. After a while ( sometimes 10 min sometimes longer) it seems that there is no fuel (petrol) being supplied any more and the engine stops. I have had the carburator overhauled and that seemed to solve the problem but that was just a short term dream. I recently heared that I should check the relay of the electrical pump. Is there anyone who had the same experience or anyone who can give me the golden tip?
  3. Well I removed the prop shaft and could turn the differential feeling clearly that there is some lose space and the belonging clunking sound. If its in the diff or in the shafts is what I want to find out. Thanks all for the replies, C.
  4. As a brandnew forum member I'm desperate to place the next question: I have a '91 Defender and bought it also with the purpose to get to know it inside out. So I refuse to let it be fixed at a workshop (untill now). I have a 'klunk' (free space sound) in my front axle and-or differential and want to remove the differential to investigate it. I got stuck by the part where I have the get also the shafts out of the diff. I wonder how much I have to remove from the side wheels ( not to formiliar with the english tech. terms). I saw the illustrations of the member that replaced it broken shaft on the rear (very nice explanations). But what about the front shafts? Anybody willing to tell me before I demount to much then necessary?
