Hi, i wonder if anyone is able to help me, i have a 1997 Discovery 1 3.9 V8 Automatic which has lost all drive both forwards and backwards.
For the past few years it has had the tipical clunk between N&R and N&D etc ....
I read on another thread that this could be the short mainshaft in the transfer box and associated gear, i have today removed these and the splines etc all seem in good order and all the teeth for the gears in the transfer box look fine. (the mainshaft hear is the cross drilled type)
I am at a loss now as to where else to go with this fault, with the front of the vehicle off the round and the rear prop removed (to take the gear out) i can turn the prop housing and both ends and this rotates and the front wheels as well.
Can anyone please give me any help as to whether there are any other areas i can check or if this is an expensive trip to the garage....
The Gearbox oil appears to be ok.
The only thoughts that spring to mind currently are: Filter, Pump, Torque Converter. if anyone has any thoughts or tips i would really appreciate them.
Regards Andy.
