  1. Hi ,yeh more gutted that I missed a days detecting!!! I kind of miss having bits of landy engine all over the front room floor!!! no really I am a bit gutted I have stripped it all but it only took a couple of hours ,and at leat it will go back with all new gaskets new head gasket. I can give it a decoke and paint everything before I refit so it will look all clean and shiny , and should be ok for a while , thanks for the tip john
  2. MMM , think you may have been right , I have just checked the head and no 7 inlet port was black and covered in carbon all the other inlets are shiney clean ? checked the inlet manifold and guess what the matching port black , the other 3 are shiney clean , looks like the no 8 exhust valve has stopped opening so the gases have been going out the inlet valve as fuel was coming in , would that make it sound like its going to go bang ??? if it is the problem even though I have just stripped the lump down to just the block left in the landy at least I didnt leave a socket in the timing case ( thats what I thought I had done )
  3. Hi , thanks for the reply, first thing that I did was turn the engine over by hand with the rocker cover removed to make sure all the valves were working ok?
  4. Hi , right where do I start , my cambelt failed last month ( fuel leaking from a worn seal in the injector pump)after broken bolts , stuck fan nut , rounded of nuts I fitted a new belt , new pushrods ect ,had the pump fitted with a new seal ( and timed up) new glow plugs .It started first turn off the key , so I give it 100 mile test run and it run like clockwork ,lovely and smooth . Last week after loading up disco with my metal detecting stuff for a run out ,as I was driving I noticed a slight blowing ?popping noise ( sounded a bit like a manafold blow ) anyway it slowly got louder and louder until I thought the engine was going to expload , I pulled over phoned a friend and got towed home . at home I tried to start the landy , horrible poping noise engine lurching from side to side? , so I thought hole in piston ? took the head of ??? all fine . ok timing tensioner slipped ? took of the timing cover today all fine??? HELP
  5. Found a place today not a mile from my home today that can supply and replace the seal on my injector pump for £25 , hopefully that will sort that ,so why I am waiting for that to be done I will strip off the timing back and replace the gasket and both crank and cam seals as well ,
  6. Hi , just had a good look at all the seals and the leak seems to be fuel dripping from the injector into the timing case , is there a replacable seal in there ????
  7. Hi , again , well after a stuck fan nut , several rounded off water pump , timing cover bolts , and very very stubern crankshaft pully bolt I got to the cambelt , it was not snapped but corroded or rotted away it was still in one piece but missing at least half its teeth , and the inside of the timing case was full of a black shredded furry mess ??? would this be due to oil leaking into the case , fuel or water ??? I dont want to rebiuld with a new belt until I can find out why its rotted away? any ideas or reasons what can cause this thanks john
  8. Hi , thats what I tried yesterday but sods law one of the waterpump housing bolts rounded of , anyway went out about an hour ago modefide the fan a bit ( cut a big slot in the back so I could get the spanner nice and flat,) put a 10 ton ratchet strap around the pully then the chassie cranked it up and thought destruction or bust and smacked s**t out of it , well to my amazment after 3 days of trying of it came as easy and smooth as anything but I will now need a new pully , pully bolts and fan , but it was worth it . thanks again for all your help and suggestions and I will be following the can belt replacment thread on here and NOT the haynes manual , thanks again john
  9. Hi , tryed that alreay , and a rachet strap , just about everything at my wits end now , just want to get on and do the job ( need me landy) and stumped at the first hurdle , soon the grinders coming out and goodby fan
  10. Hi , now I can see the holes , problem is my is nothing like that , my belt pulley is a thin metal job that bolts to the water pump by 3 screws nothing like the hefty one in the photos
  11. Hi , again there are no holes apart from the 3 screw holes that bolt the pully on on my disco?
  12. Hi , dont understand what holes that you mean?
  13. Hi thanks for the quick reply , where do you place the bar??? any chance of a quick sketch thanks john
