  1. I have a shopping list On Paddocks website, which includes a suspension kit , but I keep changing it from a standard height heavy duty to 2"lift kit, this is fro my disco1 300tdi ES

    things to consider

Iam a builder here in spain(weight)

    I use a 3t Hydraulic trailor,

I do use my cars offroad a fair bit,Rivers Mountains etc,

I dont want to ruin the look of the car too much,

And also ruin the on road ride too much

Once kit is installed i will be getting new insa turbo sahara tyres, and would like to upsize a bit poss 265 70 16, currently 235 70 16 pirelli scorpions,

I put a Heavy duty set on a 4runner I once had and It did lift it slightly ,is this likely to happen with the disco ??

Not sure I want to go as high as 2", also here stories of having to upgrade a whole host of other components after lift kit installed!!

    any advice fellas???

    Wade

  2. Well after spending several hours yesterday straightening the Lh side front end of my disco in the rain , it wasnt bad but the bumper and fairing under the bumper was a little skewiff, putting the foglamp out of line , and the end cap about 1/2 an inch from the tyre,

Anyway well chuffed with a good job done all looked pretty good,

so I went to my local bar here in Andalucia, had a beer with a mate , who then had to leave to celebrate new year at home ,

only to come back in a couple of minutes later looking a bit sheepish, he'd only gone and shoved the back of his Pajero in to the front Rh side, the damage is identical to what i had repaired yesterday exept this time the endcap is rubbing on the wheel, so its back out in the rain on new years daY

    Cheers Willy!!!

    Happy new year yaawwll!!

  3. Thanks for the reply.

Maybe i'll just bite the bullet and get the full kit, any ideas on best prices, dont want to chop the body for tyres, still got to keep it tidy on the road Spanish MOT is a bit haywire here , I took a cherokee for ITV(MOT) here last year it had no power steering, the windscreen was just sat in place , wing mirrors siliconed in place, and sh%tloads of other things not right inc a massive oil leak! and it failed on a bald tyre,

took the disco thru the other day which is in great cond, well serviced etc, and they were debating wether or not to fail me on the fact that I had 6 hazard lights 4 of which on the back , nuttaz!!

so i stared a conversation with the inspector about football (which i know nothing about!!!), after which i drove happily out of the ITV station with my 1 year sticker and stamp.

    VIVA ESPANA!

  4. Hi, I have recently aquired a nice 1994 Disco 300 tdi es , here in spain, I want to upgrade suspension to a 2"lift ,

as I use the car for work (builder), and a 3 tonne hydraulic trailor, is it necassery to buy the complete kit i.e. camber correction arms ,braided hoses etc, which is quite pricey!, or can i just upgrade the coils and springs, what are the advantages/diadvantages,

also what size tyres can i go up to without rubbing and adjusting the steering stops too much??

    Cheers Wade

  5. Yep, the ITV are t__ts, if your vehicle is classed as a commercial (I think youll find it is and this is why it has no type approval number) and over 10 years old you wont be able to register it in Spain so dont front up to much money to your gestor!

Yeh seems like this may be a no goer , pretty much mind made up to sell it and move on sadly!!, cheers for the adviuce

  6. Can anyone help i need a TYPE APPROVAL NUMBER fro my 1985 LR90 turbo diesel, so i can change from uk plates to spanish plates,

the only number on logbook and vin plate is the SALL number , on the vin plate above this is a blank block,

    any help please!!

    Wade

  7. Hi, i am in spain and i am trying to change my 1985 LR 90 turbo diesel on to spanish plates , the guy that checks the id plates to the car pointed out that i only have the vin/chassis/frame no . on my car and my logbook which is salldvac7aa230400, in order to change the car over i need a second set of numbers which may be the engine number??

what he did say is that it is just a number needed to describe the car TYPE only, and if i can get that number from someone with the similar vehicle thet number can be used, so does anyone have a similar vehicle to mine to help out or can shed any light on this matter as in tracking down this number , any help much appreciated!!.

  8. Hi anyone know where i can get a doolock catch from for the interior ,the metal linkage is present all i need is the plastic catch that slots into the door! , spanish mot coming up and they fail on ridiculous things like that , a mate of mine had his vw camper fail on the door lining not fixed properly to the rear sliding door, and yet i had a cherokee pass with 2 wing mirrors gaffa taped on andno power steering due to busted pump, and totally knackered wipers all round,

  9. Excellent i will checkout paddocks and the other one yhx, local LR dealers are in malaga , and along with any other business to do with motor parts , sales, and spares they hold anything to do with cars to be as valuable as a pregnant bloke!!

    thanks Wade.

  10. I have an 86 td 90, which does exactly the same thing , once warm is fine untill coasting downhill in 2nd gear throttling on and off very gently then it chugs out a fair amount of blue, normal running dont notice a thing, a mate of mine reckons valve stem seals nead a polish out??

but hoping timing may help or glow plugs , let me know how you get on visa versa!!!

    cheers Wade

    Hi,

I have been running a 1987 2.5TD 90 for the last few weeks and am a little concerned about the amount/colour of smoke that I make on start up.

The truck has covered little over 1000miles in the last year or so and is now my daily driver - I'd put the heavy smoking down to lack of use, but after three weeks it hasn't cleared up.

    This is the situation:

Once the engine is warm its starts fine and their is little smoke as it starts or whilst running.

When starting from cold it takes a while turning over before firing (yes I am using the glow-plugs!) and when it goes there is an almighty cloud of whitish-bluey smoke. If I blip the engine a couple of times this clears and the engine runs relatively clean. If I just let the engine go straight to idle there is a constant chug of whitish smoke.

Over the last week or so I have noticed an increas in the amount of black smoke appearing on start up. I'm guessing that at least some of this must be down to fuel not being burnt - the smoke has a diesel smell to it rather than oil.

would I be right in thinking that the injector pump timing could be out or is this just a sympton of a 19J with 135K on the clock?

Any insights would be greatly received.

  11. I took mine off with ease a few years ago when I tinted my windows. I'll have a look at them again in the morning to remind myself how I did it and get back to you if no one else has already..

Hi did you get a chance to look at the catches, just been out at it with a big screwdriver then thought better of it, any reply appreciated

  12. Hi can anyone tell me how to remove the sliding rear window catches on my 86 90, i can see the screws sat behind the lever part tryed removing plastic caps ?? top and bottom no joy, iam in the middle of blackout windows (to help deter the tool fairys!!!!!) and would rather get the stuff behind the catches, also where can i get a set of door locks?

    cheers Wade.
