  1. Matt,

RCV @ Doncaster, part of Land Rover Parts Shop. I bought a kit for the 200tdi i put in my 90 for around £35. Don't skimp on it. You might be lucky and get away with it. But I'm just rebuilding a Citroen Dispatch that had a belt fitted 2K ago. Only the belt was replaced but since then the idler has failed. It snapped the cam in 4 places and cracked the cam cover. Its coming close in on £500 ish.

If it goes on the 200tdi you may well only be looking at £100 but its at least £60 more than the piece of mind that its right in the first place and the down time of doing it again. Just imagine the red face you'll have if your revving the nuts off it to get out a bomb hole and ot throws the belt off.

  2. I know its not much use to you as you don't have the Disco high pressure pipe, but for if you do come across one, I used an 8mm compression joint and joined the two pipes together on the n/s chassis rail. Fit and sealed easy with no leaks.

Not sure if Pirtek would, but they could possibly make you up the pump end with a foot or so of flexible hose and some 8mm steel pipe for you to cut to size and fit as I did.

  3. Think I'd rather have done the bulkhead that the footwell I replaced on mine. Real PITA, could have done some other jobs as well while it was out! Sure I'll be reading this again in time to come.

Quick off topic question for Eightpot. Did you buy that Landy from a guy in Rotherham? It looks identical to my work mates old one.

    Mick.

  4. Dave,

Sorry for the delay. Didn't manage to get anything done last weekend. Made the mounting for the air filter assembley last night and will be temporarily fitting the air box to it with cable ties, until I can get some huge hose clips.

I did manage to get you a pic of the hose I'm using to show you how flexible it is....

    post-7407-1247179682_thumb.jpg

That's 2m of 63mm (IIRC) hose knotted. Fits the Disco turbo outlet and the TD filter a treat. Weather permitting, pics of it all mounted at the weekend.

    Cheers,

    Mick.

  5. Dave,

All being well, I should be mounting and piping my air filter assembley up this weekend so I'll take some pics to show how well the hose flexes and fits. I'm making a mounting plate to mount the air filter assembley to where the air con compressor was, so will be running the snorkel up the offside like your hoping to do.

    Cheers,

    Mick.

  6. Dave,

I've got both hoses lying around from the old TD. Not sure what condition their in but if you want them you can have them for the price of postage?

Alternatively, I picked up some really flexible hose for my conversion, needed to be longer than the TD pipes. The hose is identical to the hose southdown are selling on eBay for £23/metre. I paid about £6/metre from Carlton Hydraulics in Rotherham. Could possibly get to you some and post later this week it if need be?

    Cheers,

    Mick.

  7. They'll run without the pump - not the best, but they do go, so the switch might be better placed on the stop solenoid and disguised or hidden somewhere. Although i suppose a switch on the oump might make the theif easier to catch whilst driving away with your landy!

It should run, but it will be lumpy like you say. But it might attract some attention.... every little helps as more and more keep disappearing without trave lately.

  8. Screw a small self tapping screw into the old seal, and prize it out with a pair of pliers or a claw hammer.

Prizing the seal out with a screw driver could scrape the surface deep enough to cause another leak. You can buy a seal puller from such as Machine Mart but the above has worked for me every time.

    Mick.

  9. I was thinking last night what about one of those little Eee Pc's. You can get touch screen attatchements for them cheap enough on eBay. And the laptops themselves arent overly expensive when you consider how much the touchscreen LCD monitors are.

Should be easy to mount aswell, and easily removeable so not to attract the wrong sort.

    Mick

  10. Er honest answer is I don't know. Are there any serial numbers/markings etc on the unit or pump that would identify it? If so I'll have a look and let you know. Joining things with an 8mm compression joint sounds a tad technical, does it require special tools? Or is it a part bought from those nice people at Land Rover?

Not sure about serial numbers. Western is the guru for that.

The 8mm compression joint can be bought from a local hydraulics place. Think mine was about £2.50. All you need to fit is a hacksaw to cut the pipes, think its a 17mm spanner fitting and some emory tape to clean the edges of the pipe up.

    Mick.

  11. Chris, you lucky bugger. With the amount of time I've spent removing the old footwell, I could have fitted a bulkhead by now. I've also got the n/s sill and battery box in bits. I won't be doing the other side in a hurry. Fortunatly it looks good.

Dave, glad you recognised it, because it would have took me ages. I've been in contact with Paddocks and explained the situation. Their sending me the correct panel out FOC due to it being their mistake, and I can keep the series panel as I've painted it and they can't re-sell it.

Nearside series footwell panel anyone? ;)

    Mick.

  12. Will have a look for bracket as I certainly don't want to pay £100! It just so happens that at the last Old Sodbury sort out I went to I got some new hoses ready for when I had the power steering - I even got an excellent pump, bottle, box, rod etc for £25..one of my best bargains. BUt as I have the Disco unit complete I hope that I will be able to use the best of both to make a complete unit..

    Thanks

The pas pipework you bought from sodbury, is it from a 90? If so you've got everything you need. I joined the high pressure pipe from the disco to the exisiting 90 one with an 8mm compression joint on the n/s chassis rail, as recommended by Muther Trucker. Joined easily, just havent got around to bleeding it yet to check for leaks. It should be fine.

If you think of any photos that may help that arent in the tech archives, let me know and I'll take some. Just hoping on some free time when the weathers right to finish things up on mine.

    Mick.

  13. looks like a series footwell to me, the holes in it are where the bolts go through for the mud/splash guards. Is the vertical section at the furthest forward point of the footwell the same height as the panel you removed.

    Hope that helps

    Dave

The vertical bit seems a little higher as it was a tight fit to get it to sit where it is in the photo. if I'm understanding you right Dave.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with it being a series footwell though. I've just compared the picture from YRM's webpage (Paddocks have no picture for the n/s footwell) with Paddocks picture for the 90/Defender panel and it does have a different hole arrangement.

No doubt Paddocks will try and tell me thats what I ordered and it's my fault like when they sent me the wrong UJ's. But I've found the sales invoice which lists the 90/Def part number according to their website.

Cheers for your help guys. Starting to think I'm going mad with this Landy.

    Mick.

  14. looks like it needs to move further to the right & tuck under the gearbox tunnel, as the flange for the tunnel panel is meant to sit on top of the footwell panel

But if I move the panel over, that just moves the gap to the other side. This is the panel I've used here.

I think I'll be contacting Paddocks in the morning to see weather I've cocked up, or the panel is too short. Anymore for anymore?

    Mick.
