Hi All , Have replaced the temp probes as suggested , still no good ... Have found a local garage with an ex Landrover mechanic who knows his V8's , he has stripped it down and found the fault to be a badly worn camshaft and coked up heads , these are are now being sorted so fingers crossed (and everything else .....) it will be working again properly Nigel

Hi All , Thanks for all your Help , To answer a few questions , I 'm in Stoke on Trent , so have tryed without naming people , dealers or (so called) Land Rover specialists in Hanley , Fenton , Middlewich and Congleton. To give some more detail on the faults , it runs rough all the time cold or warmed up , it seems to me as if if its missing , but the missing is not consistant and on starting it smells of petrol , the last repairer said it was either the cam shaft or it needed a new engine as its worn out !!!!! It has done 76k with 3/4 service history . The fuel filter is new , I was there when it was done .There are no faults showing on the ECU last time it was in a garage . Will try what you suggest and report back . Thanks very much for your advice Nigel

Hi All , I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping someone can help me , I have a Discovery 1 98 R reg 3.9v8i ES that runs very badly For example it does about 8 mpg , it struggles to tow a 1400kg caravan , it seems like its missing , this is worse when cold , it is also worse when running supermarket fuel , the missing is not regular it can be not as bad then for a few minutes its terrible . Its been into 4 Land Rover Specialists where I have spent to date £1200 and am still no better off . Parts that have been tryed or replaced are as follows :- Plugs , Ht Leads ,Coil , Distributer , Dizzy Cap + Rotor Arm , ECU , Air Flow meter , Fuel Filter.... Can anyone help , I like the Discovery but feel like giving up with it Regards Nigel
