  1. Hi all Having a bit of trouble with the power steering on my fathers 1984 classic , a few weeks ago the steering suddenly went heavy , as if it had no power assistance , then it seemed to rite its self untill yesterday , now its really heavy and it dose'nt self centre , you have to pull and push the wheel to steer it. Had the pump apart , no obvious signs of wear or carp in there , every thing well in tolerance. Any body else had this problem , could it be the box.? Look forward to the expert advice as allways. Regards Guy.
  2. Cheers for all the replies , great help as allways, just have to get the downpipe and the mods will begin. Regards Guy.
  3. Oh and it has'nt got an airflow meter.
  4. yes it has a throttle cable on one side of the lever on the pump and a kickdown cable on the ohter. As i said before it has a small electronic device on top that is pluged into the loom that comes down behind thermostat housing. Regards Guy.
  5. The injection pump looks the same as the one that was fitted to the 90 ,only it has a small round electronic device on top , which i thought was some kind of position switch. . So is mine an early model with a manual pump.? There are no signs of it being fiddled with before , its a very standard, non tampered with disco.. Regards Guy.
  6. Hi all, Ive just aqquired a 1995 disco 300 tdi auto , vehicle runs and drives very well but the engine just seems to be a bit sluggish compared with the 300 tdi defender i had. The questions are , would it benefit from having the EGR and CAT removed ? And how legal is it to remove the CAT.? If the EGR was removed what happens to the wiring , is it a case of just unplugging it and leaving the wiring there? If they were both removed what other wiring needs to be modified if any? Look forward to the expert advice as allways..! Regards Guy.
  7. Thats what i like about you ,allways full of usefull advice.......... Hows you keeping , have you heard from walker recently?
  8. HI All Have a Classic Rangie 1984 v8 carb with the 35DM8 distributer and remote under coil amplifier. In daily use ,been running fine up till now , used wednesday in all the rain and bad weather and was running fine , got it out next day running abit lumpy , put it down to being abit damp at 1st . The hotter it got the rougher it got ,backfiring and coughing to the piont it would hardly pull it self along. Let it cool down and it reverts back to just abit lumpy. Coil has been changed with no affect. Could it possibly be the amplifier? 2nd question is, can you convert from 35DM8 to 35DLM8 with amp on side of distributer. All help and advice greatfully appreciated Regards Guy.
  9. Yes for sure , false economy otherwise i would of thought. Cheers
  10. As in Britpart and alike you mean..!!
  11. Hi I have to replace the headgaskets on my 1985 Classic V8 with carbs , at pressent it has the original tin head gaskets fitted now should i be replacing them with tin or should i go for the composite type? If i use the composite type should i be changing the bolts aswell , maybe i should be changing them even if i use the tin type again? Any thoughts will be gratefully appreciated. Happy new year to you all. Regards Guy.
  12. Good thought, i assume your thinking the indicators and horns may use same earth point and as horns draw alot of current we may of lost the earth when horns were activated. Will trace it all back tomorrow and let you know. Cheers , regards Guy.
  13. Rite we have a bit of an issue with the indicators and horn on our 84 rangey, since carrying out repair work to the front end and putting it back together the indicators and horn refuse to work, the indicators did work initially on rebulid untill horn was pressed and now neither work , checked switch thats fine getting power and working, horns work fine if put across battery, indicator relay replaced , hazzards work fine. Really would appreciate some ideas if any body has some , clutching at straws now. Many thanks in advance. Regards Guy.
  14. 1973 Series 3 with n/a diesel engine , was running fine untill it got to a hill..!! started miss firing with clouds of black/brownish smoke , runs fine on idle with no smoke but as soon as you give it any beans it starts missing , also starts fine. My thoughts are Head gasket. Any more ideas greatfully appreciated. Many thanks Guy.
