  1. Thanks to all those involved in organising / running the event yesterday.

We had a great time. Truck and occupants came back in one piece, which is a bonus.

Would it be possible to post the results up ? - just out of interest.

Also any links to photo's of the day would be great from those who were there with cameras

    Cheers

    Simon & Owen

  2. Thanks Bow,

    The offer is much appreciated.

I needed to get one anyway so I ordered one this morning.

Can you confirm on here the starting location at the end of next week.

I'll keep my eye on here and on my email.

Have you had any luck with the engine change ? did you decide to go 200 or 300 TDi in the end ?

    Speak soon

    Regards

    Simon

  3. thanks,

I am going to spend a few pennies this week on a tree strop (wont get very close to a punch using my 4m strops, and i just re-routed the exhaust through the rear PTO hole which i used to lash through for recovery so i'll need another recovery point.

I also need to pick up a winch sail. The aim of the post was to see if i needed anything else while the cheque book was out.

Thanks for the heads up on the maps, thats saved me a few quid.

Looking forward to getting stuck in and actually using that expensive 'show piece' bolted to my front bumper ;)

All those challenge Experts out there..... please chip in

  5. I also had very long delivery times from Rebel, when i rang they said they were busy getting ready for a show (so was i but my bits hadn't come) and didn't know when they would get round to sending my goods out and that i could cancel my order and order elsewhere if i liked (no joke). I was shocked but unfortunately they are so cheap i decided to wait.

  6. Had a quick search but not found the answer i was looking for.

Can anyone give me the length of a military hanger. I have bought an 88 2a and im sure it sits a little high than standard. Just wanted to check they had'nt been fitted previously.

I dont know the length on a standard hanger so i cant tell.

    Thanks, SIMON

  7. thanks for the info on past experiences. The jag clutch maybe another option for me to look at. Any one else run a series 2a clutch ? anyone running a S1 clutch ??

    Thanks

    Simon.

  8. I have searched the previous posts on which clutch to use when mounting a sd1 v8 with sd1 flywheel to a series 2a box and was happy that i needed a 9.5" s2a clutch.

However i spoke to a helpful guy at the eastnor show last wk end who said he had used the sd1 clutch.

    This got me thinking.

The sd1 clutch was designed to handle the 160hp engine in a pretty heavy car. Will the series clutch be able to hold twice as much power as it was originally designed for ???

Has anybody had any issues with clutch slippage??

I will be fitting all new clutch parts.

The clutch is one of the few bits i have left to order before i start the swap, just want to be sure before i order.

    Thanks in advance, Simon

  9. Thanks for all your help.

Where the series steering wheel did not fit, is it best to use the defender steering boss and wheel along with the complete defender coloumn ?

I like the idea of mating the bottom half of a RR column to the remaining series shaft as i can then avoid the extra cost of a steering wheel and boss.

Plus there are RR bottom halfs available for like £20.

    Thanks again, Simon

  10. I have spent the last few days searching through all the previous posts on power steering for a series landrover which has bought up some great posts and photos on the subject.

    I have a range rover v8 steering pump and box. My series 2a is a SD1 3.5 v8 conversion.

Previous posts seem to suggest that i need a late defender steering colum.

Right first question: after what year is a "late" defender ?

and am i right in thinking that this column will fit the splines on my RR box and the steering boss for my 2a steering wheel ? or will i need a range rover lower section???

Thanks in advance. I have seen there are quite a few who have carried out this conversion.

    Cheers Simon.
