  1. hi all

i have noticed the last few weeks that there has been a lot of black smoke coming from the exhaust but mostly when going up hill, but the last two days it seems to be constant as long as i am accelerating.

any ideas what could be the cause and possible cures

    many thanks in advance

    paul

  2. hi all

    i need a new nut that goes on the output shaft of a six bolt pas box as mine split when i took it off and the new box did not come with one, i can't find one locally at a realistic price (quoted £15.28 +vat at local 4x4 centre}

i was wondering if anyone knew the thread size so i could try enginneering places.

    thanks

  3. hi all

the landy needs a new x cross member and i am planning on making my own but was wondering what wall thinkness it should be.

i spoke to a steel stock holder today and the thinnest they have in stock is 5mm wall, this seems a bit thick and heavy to me, it weighs something like 25kgs for the length required.

    any help would be great

    many thanks

  4. hi all

i picked up my diaphragm kit today and is a bag full of copper washers and rubber o rings and a few other parts

to be honest i haven't got a clue where half of them go

does anyone have a strip down diagram/exploded view of this part of the pump to help me reassemble mine

    many thanks

    paul

  5. dave thanks for your your very kind offer but after spending most of the day on the phone i have managed to track one down locally

i was told it is only available as a kit and the cost is £28.00 incl vat does this seem about right

i am hoping to sort it tomorrow

    will keep you all posted

  6. hi guys

after noticing some power loss yesterday, today i decided to investigate and after some research on here first i decide to look in the direction of the boost diaphragm on the injection pump. and once i removed the alloy cover i could not believe what i saw, the rubber was almost completly gone it seemed like it had dissolved

could anyone advise where i could obtain a new diaphram as i have scoured the net and can't seem to find a supplier

also does anyone know what would have caused it to dissolve like that

sorry no pics as camera not working properly

    many thanks

  7. hi guys

just looking for some advise on tyres/sizes

i need to change the tyres on my 110 which currently has the old style disco alloys on it and a tyre size of 235/70/r16

is it worth the extra cash and go for 235/85/r16,

and should i go for mud terrian or stick with all terrian as i do some off roading but mostly on road and are they really worth the extra cash

  8. hi all

over the last week or so my clutch seems to be disapearing the bighting point seems to getting lower and lower,

today when i tried to drive my beloved landy the clutch pedal goes almost all the way to the floor with no resisitance until the very last fraction and the bight point is so low that if you wiggle your big toe then that is the clutch in and out, i have not noticed the clutch sliping at all

does this meen that my clutch plate needs replacing or could it be something else.

    any help/ideas are much appreciated

    thanks

    paul

  9. If there's no bad noises or black smoke then I'd be looking at the pressure diaphragm in the injector pump - a hole in it will fool the pump into thinking you're not getting any boost. Make sure you put it back in the same position as when it was removed, since this will affect your fuelling.

    thanks turbocharger

where on the fuel pump is the pressure diaphragm.

  10. i think my turbo charger might be faulty/knackered,

when drove off this morning all was well it drove as normal but after returning home at lunch time when i went to drive off again it was really slugish on the hill that it was fine on this morning and it is not the first time i have noticed this.

so i was wondering if the turbo charger on a 19j engine can be stripped and refurbed/repaired or is it a dig deep in the pocket time and buy a new one

any help or advice will be recieved with great thanks

  11. Could be your power steering fluid running down, pump begins to seize up, puts strain on the fan belt causing it to slip and squeek. Try that.... are you sure the fan belt is tight?

thanks for that i just checked the fluid level it was just below max so ok

but while i was in the engine bay i had a poke around and the drive belt to the power steering pump seemed quite tight so i slackened it off a bit and there is some play in the pulley on nthe end of the pump so while the belt was slak i took it for a little drive and quess what no squeek so far.

so could the bearing in the pump be make the noise, if so can they be changed or is it a new pump :(
