  1. I think I have it now. Thank you. When I opened the link on my iPad I didn't get all the variations. I do get them on my laptop.
  2. That was my first port of call but I seem to be unable to match the VIN. Plus the last time I asked them to confirm a part number for my tdi they got it wrong resulting in me importing the wrong exhaust and losing a lot of money.
  3. An elderly neighbour recently lost the offside wheel arch moulding, a 2020 Discovery Sport, it flew off as the vehicle entered the motorway and I'm struggling to find the correct part number. As I'm in Italy I will not be able to return it if it is incorrect. Where can I see an online parts book?

    new key

I was quoted €700 by the closest landrover dealer. I'm sorry but this is daylight robbery.
  5. Never seen them before. I have always just bought another die. Too many tools!
  6. The nut at the bottom of the shock is finer pitch but I believe the M12 can be 1.0. 1.5 or 1.75. I have ordered a die from Amazon, hopefully, will be here tomorrow. Nuts were also ordered, but I'll have to drive 2 hours to pick them up.
  7. They look OK, just very, very tight. Determining the thread size is now the problem, to buy a die. I believe it is 12 x 1.75, but no car means I can't go out to check. 15 clicks from the nearest town.
  8. The nut holding the top of the rear shock absorbers to the upper bracket was extremely tight. It only came off because I was using a large 3/4" ratchet set. One side was slightly worse than the other. The nuts were actually hot when I got them off from the friction. Is it OK to use a die to tidy up the threads for the new nut? Getting new upper brackets will take more than a week and I really need the car back on the road as we are very remote.
  9. I tend to try and stick with original LR parts. Are these any good? They were given to me by a friend.
  10. Having purchased a pair of original STC3771's from the UK a friend, who has recently sold his 95 110 has given me a pair of Monroe D6629's and a pair of Monroe D6628's. Is there any difference? Which should I use?
  11. Is it possible to determine whether I have std or heavy-duty springs? If not how do I decide which would be better? I do carry the occasional load and I am offroad every day just getting home.
  12. I don't think so. I have Italian reg and it takes more than a VIN to get a new log book here, including lots of expenses.
  13. I'm more than happy with the factory standard, I have 2 part numbers, depending on which LR parts list you look at, some overlap but I would have thought the hi-cap had heavier duty and the parts lists don't list the hi-cap separately. When you look for part numbers for springs it becomes even more confusing as the LR parts book quotes colours.
  14. why? what can someone do with my chassis number?
  15. I have a feeling I need to replace the rear shocks. The rubbers certainly need replacing and the ride is very noisy at the back. I'm not sure if the hi cap had different shock absorbers to the std 110. Whilst I don't want to spend a fortune, I'd still like a good quality part and I'm not sure what to replace them with. By virtue of where I live, I am off-road quite a bit and do very few miles. I do occasionally carry 6-700kg. From what I can see the part is STC291.

I called a LR dealer in the SE and they said 700 euro was about right, maybe they weren't being entirely honest. Nearly twice what you are suggesting.

    new key

I have a 96 tdi so ignition keys are easy, but a friend of mine has been quoted 700 euro for a new key. He has fairly recently bought a late 2018 Disco Sport 2.0 TD4 150 CV. He doesn't think he was given a second key but as he bought it from a LR dealer some distance away they told him to go to his nearest dealer and they would sort him out. They have appeared to have told him that they need to remove the ECU to give him another key and it is going to cost euro 700.00. Can anyone suggest why this might be the case? The key he has works perfectly well, how would they normally supply a new key? And how much would one expect to pay in the UK?
  18. We are hoping to drive it back. The gentleman has a new Defender but wants to go back to his favourite, the 300tdi.
  19. I have offered to help go and collect the car from about 150km away for an elderly neighbour. It would seem that it has been in his garage for up to 2 years and has not been started. Apart from the battery and tyres, is there anything else I need to consider before going?
  20. Using the parts book from this link http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrover/2010/02/land-rover-defender-110-parts-book/ , which Western kindly gave me, I can only find drawings for the transfer box to front flange for the LT77 and the LT85. The parts appear identical for both boxes. I have an R380 gearbox, will the parts be the same? I'm sure I'm being thick here.
  21. 96 300Tdi hicap, SALLDHHF7TA975470 The transfer case is leaking at joint with front propshaft. As I will be ordering the parts from the UK, and want to make sure I have everything I need, can someone help? Do I order just the oil seal and the bearing, just in case, or might I need the sealing washer, mudshield, circlip or spacer?
  22. Weather has been too difficult here, and I have to work off a mud and stone surface, so I'm only just getting around to this. The parts will be ordered from the UK so I want to be sure I get everything I might need. I know It's a pain but can someone with experience tell me which parts I should order to be sure I have everything I need on hand? Is it possible to get the bearing ot if I need to without lowering the transfer box? Normally I would strip it to get a better idea before ordering but since Brexit orders can take a long time to arrive and we're expecting more snow.
