  1. When the transition from the td5 engined Defender to the Puma based version was made what was changed regarding the transmission/Drive train. I presume the gearbox was a new version but what else if anything in the drive train was altered?

And does any body have any comments on td5 v puma relaibility/performance.

    Thanks.

  2. That is ruddy awful an nice Defender totally trashed for the benefit of some thieving scum.

I don't think we can even have the satisfaction of knowing whoever was driving it suffered a serious head injury - if he had their would have been some signs of blood on the interior shots, and I can't see any.

Stuff like this really does make my blood boil

  3. The gas smell was only when towards the end of filling up, must have vented out of a valve on the tank

Even so it should vent to the outside of the vehicle. There was a case not so long ago when an LPG powered car went up in flames after filling. The driver noticed a smell of gas, but he was told by the guy who sold it that there was nothing to worry about.

And then he lit a cigarette.... kaboom !!! lucky to escape.

  4. Like Lexus and Landcruiser Amazons? ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

    :)

    A pretty predictable response,

however I would guess this is about proportions.....the vast majority of vehicles sold by Jag and LR are in the luxury sector, the vast amount of products sold by Toyota are mainstream, hence as per my original post I think Toyota's hit is a real indicator of the problems we face, It's really not rocket science to comment that the hit is not going to be even greater in the division responsible for lexus and LandCruiser, I reckon anyone could work that out.

  5. True - but Toyota also make cars that you'd expect not to be so affected by the downturn; reliable, economical, cheap compared with some of the US stupid SUV stuff or luxury marques like Jag & LR that you'd expect to be hit hardest.

    Wot he said..... :P

  6. I'm afraid when the mighty Toyota predict a loss we know we are all in the doogy doo's

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7794888.stm

The luxury market which LR major in is I'm afraid under much more pressure than mainstream like Toyota so highly likely to be in even bigger trouble. My personal view is I don't really care who or how LR get saved but I truly hope they do, losing Woollies I can cope with (Unless I had worked there!!!) losing the Green Oval is unthinkable..........

Original post 5.39pm, this one 9.12.pm

As I said ...... RIP Land Rover.....it was really good knowing you.... seems nobody cares....

  8. Just thought that as it is the time to be sending Xmas cards i would do this...

Merry Christmas to everyone on the forum!!

    Here's to a nice and muddy 2009!

    Thoughts on new years resolutions??

    mine = get a 90 :D

And to you all the best

    Mine

-- to save enough to nearly get a td5 or puma 90 truck cab... times are hard so probably won't make it all, maybe in 2010.....

  9. Mouse Man - those are the type of thing that I have been looking at, but didn't know if anyone had experience with any that don't flap around in the wind. My only experience is of cheap ones that get thrown off at the first stop in the services because the 60mph breeze blows them all over the place!!

On a td5 Discovery mirror they wont' flap,

    Good luck with your test.

  10. I nearly could of helped you there Adrian , Until I read your last sentence , I was thinking Defender for some reason and suggest the Britax arms from an LDV pick up that bolt straight on , But I guess try a trailer spares outlet for extentions .

ALSO if he just used extended arms the examiner will be able to see whats going on - but he won't.

Daft though it sounds he basically needs one set of mirrors for him and one for the examiner

I know a small number of people who successfully use these:

The Milenco universal ones 10 down the list.

  11. One problem is the complete lack of will to do anything by the police,

last year a mates Isuzu was stolen (with keys) it had a tracker on,

it was found in Doncaster with 5 similar vehicles outside a gypsy camp, when my mate asked what will you do about the other 5 he was told, "nothing they are not coming up as stolen," they didnt even run the numberplates.

Tad unfair I think given the original post.

Any way the thread is about the 'modus operandi' of the scum that steal these vehicles not whether the police in a particular area respond or not when one is stolen.

  12. How do insurance companies calculate the premium? Am I right in thinking is is something like:

    Basic premium for car

    +

    % loading for driver

    +

    % loading for address

    +

    % loading for accidents

    -

    NCB

    +

    Insurance premium tax

    =

    Premium payable?

If not, how do they arrive at a figure?

    Thanks

    Chris

Not forgetting any loading applied for traffic offences, occupation (eg Publican and freelance musician yeah man!!!) all add cost too.

As to the other question - sounds like they owe you to me too..

  13. I once heard that if it is possible to get a Biro through a hole then a mouse can get through. Their skulls are made of several parts and can deform to allow then through.

    Chris

Now despite my user name I don't profess to be an expert in this area but you are indeed correct, they can get through the most incredibly small gaps.

Those gaps that normally exist between the panels on a Land Rover will present no obstacle what so ever... ;)
