Rolly
Hi all, can someone tell me what I loosen off to fit a new serpentine belt. Every other car I've had adjusted off the alternator but I can't see it on the Disco (96 Tdi) Is it the belt tensioner? and if so which bolt do I undo? I'm not a fan of trial & error 'cos that usually ends up with me giving money that I'd rather spend on beer to a mechanic Cheers!
Pete Attryde
Use a (15mm i think) spanner on the bolt in the middle of the tensioner pulley to swing the tensioner up off the belt and then the belt will slide off. The spring is quite stiff and it can be tricky holding everything in the correct positions to get the new belt on. Pete
Rolly
Thanks Pete, I'm off to give it a go right now.
Rolly
Yep, all fixed, the bolt on the pulley is a left-handed thread and you just lever the tensioner up & out of the way and after some swearing the belt just slips in. No bubbles in the reservoir and no pressure build up so I got away with that one. Think I'll put a spare in the car.
