Hi all

I am thinking about buying a NANOCOM, however i was led to beleieve the my Disco (51plate Td5) wasn't OBDII complient until 2004, but NANOCOM state that this OBDII device will work on all discovery's

Does anyone know if the kit will work on a 2001 Td5 Disco

Is the 2001 Td5 OBD or OBDII complient.

Thanks

Steve

Let me translate in plain English (my notes in brackets) what you can read on Nanocom website:

....... but the difference between the Nanocom and all the other common scantools is that it doesn't employ the standard protocol (i.e. the OBD protocol) but it works with the owner protocols (i.e the LR proprietary protocol);......

In other words, your Td5 LR doesn't need to be OBD compliant as Nanocom doesn't need/use this protocol.

On the other hand, your Discovery is OBD compliant, otherwise you couldn't have read the fault codes you mentioned in the other thread with the tool you used.

I didn't know that the NANOCOM used it's own protocol, however maybe i should have worded my previous post a little differently.

Would an OBDII device work on my Disco or would i need OBD (I appriciate the Nanocom will work)

thanks

I have a 2001 Td5 disco, and have had a nanocom for a couple of months, and yes, it does work fine.

Couple of annoyances though:

1) theres no detailed manual for what the settings (particularly relating to SLABS) do

2) Sometimes the programming (using the software on the laptop) on the nanocom is the wrong way round (example, if using nanocom to raise and lower the rear air suspension, the "lower Left" setting actually "raises right" and vice versa. It's fine once you know this, but we pulled our hair out for a couple of hours thinking somethings screwed with the ecu or soemthing until we realised.

3) Sometimes you can get communication errors, which are a bit of a pain

Having said that, I wouldnt be without my nanocom - it's earned its keep in saving going to a specialist to read faults and clear them every time.

Neil.
