2004 Freelander td4 auto problems

There is a known problem with the brake light switch. The switch fails causing the lights to be permanantly on.

There is a re-designed switch available. Land Rover part number XKB500120 (this replaces XKB000010). - Approximately £6.70

You also need an adaptor for the wiring loom if the new style switch has not previously been fitted. Part number YMQ503280 - Approx £8.16

Hope this helps....

HDC will only operate in 1st and reverse - otherwise it would indeed be downright dangerous.

Try it..... engage 1st & HDC, bob along any empty road accelerating. Quickly lift your foot off the accelerator. You'll feel the ABS kick in and rapidly slow you.

Now repeat in 2nd. Lights flash but nothing happens.

Feeling brave? Try it in reverse!

And - if the warning lights are on you potentially have no ABS - which will be an MOT failure - but the brakes will still work!

And....has the FL2 been out 2years now? I just think he hates the car......can you do 70 in 1st?????

PS! there is a problem with the so called 3 amigoes on the FL 1. This illuminates the TC, HDC and ABS lights (all three together). common causes are brake light switch and disconnected / broken wires under switch on gear stick, after that check ABS sensors, if that all fails time to find a friendly dealer or specialist who will plug in the diagnostics for you.
