Electric Window Oddness

Recommended Posts

Just put the dashboard back together on the disco and i've got a bit of a problem with the electric windows.

Basically when you press "up" on one control, the window does go up very slowly, but the window on the other side goes down. Try and wind the other one up, and it goes down too.

It did this when i last had the dash out to change the heater the first time, and when i came out with the multimeter to try and figure out what was wrong, everything was working normally.

What i'm wondering is if someone can post me the wiring diagram for the electric windows so i can have a look and try to track down this fault.

Cheers

Kev

Well i figured it out.

The switches have two earths, and when the switch is in the middle both legs of the motor are connected to an earth.

When you choose a direction one leg changes to 12v and the other stays at earth.

The "up" earths had broken, but there was still continuity between them, so current was flowing thru the door motor in the Up direction, back to the switch, thru the broken earth to the other switch, thru that motor backwards, then on to the down earth.

Bridged the two earths with a small length of wire and they wound up just fine!

Just need to replace the earth now.
