gee1599
cylinder number 3 is to low thats why you have smoke and a missfire have you checked the rockers / push rods on cyl 3 ?

gee1599
if they are to tight it will have low compression also did you do a dry and wet compression test ?? if you did what was the wet reading on cyl 3 ?
chris_oakley
just done a normal dry . as read that doing a wet one isn't advisable on the tdi. i could do a wet one 2morow, if thats the way forward ? so if i just loosen the tappet on number 3 il be able to see if its made a difference. chris_oakley
Put the oil in spin it over by hand once , then attempt to do a wet test.

chris_oakley
Iv Decided going to pull head of . spoke to land rover specialist and they think the head gasket might be blowing acrossed the bores . at least with the head i should be able to see some sort of damage if there is some. gee1599
if it was a cross the bores it would have 2 cylinders low on compression
