andrewjetjockey
Here is the problem in brief: 3000 revs (ish) = bad vibration zone. Driving or still it doesn't matter. Found I needed IRD bolts. Been told I need a new rear engine mount to subframe. I bought it as a head gasket failure. Looking at it now since starting it, I think there was an oil leak from the sump, lost oil, got hot, head went bang. The main bearing is noisier than it should be but not overpowering. WON'T use a dealer as I have seen 3, all of whom say it's something different that will cost between £100 and £2,700 to put right so I just don't trust them. At my wits end now - about to get rid if I can't cure. Can anyone help? Andrew
jaysjetski
3k vibration sounds like the driverside ird mounting bracket failure. i had the same thing plus i had 2 bolts missing, you will have to remove the driver front wheel, engine protector cover, then have a good look at the bracket that is 'C' shaped going wat looks like around the drivershaft. it may have cracked or have bolts missing. there are several. one really long one which goes in underneath the powersteering pump. hope that help. rear subframe bush is a pain in the ass but about an hours works. undo the 4 rear subframe bolts to lower the frame,(not remove) then get at the front bush, remove replace and refit the subframe bolts. Hi Thanks for that But this may be relevant. I did have some bolts missing from the IRD Bracket but my mechanic (who I trust but is not a Land Rover expert) replaced them. He thinks the bracket is OK. BUT as I say he's not an expert so could he be missing something bracket wise? If it needed replacing would he see that?
