Diff Lock sorted at last and ready to go .

Hello everyone and what a happy person I am . It all started woith a question on second hand seats ,then the usual conversation about Land Rovers . This quickly moved onto my stuck will not select or move diff lock lever .

Bring it down at 3 pm we will take a look said Ray from 4X FORTY ONE of HORBURY JUNCTION WAKEFIELD , I had to do a tight turn as I arrived ,this made the front tyres nip and squeal . I introduced myself and told tthem of my diff lock problem ,to which the mechanic said ` I think it is stuck IN DIFF LOCK `. ( I had already removed the tunnel trim ) the vehicle was jacked up giving one wheekl in the air ,and yes diagnosed =stuck IN diff lock .

The diff lever gater was removed ,then the `top` of the `box` was removed ,and aall was well seized . A few minutes in the vice and all was sorted ,the results were a diff selecct as smooth/easy as you could wish , even the electrics were sorted under the car resulting in a dashboard symbol .

Thank you very much said I to Ray and his mechanic ,`what do I owe you `I duly paid him his very moderate fee .

I asked him about fixing the almost new calipers I had bought at Driffield for £ 10 each ,bring the car 1st thing tomorrow and we will do them for you .

I arrived as the shop was being opened ,( there was an aroma of bacon in the air from the local cafe , what more could you have to start the day ) the car was put up on a ramp and Ray talked me through any problems before starting the job ( good point I thought ).

I then went for a walk around the local area ,they used to build Churchill Tanks at the nearby factory before Bombardier made rolling stock .

On my return 2 hrs later ( I stopped at local cafe for a breakfast )( bad lad )the job had been done to the rear brakes ,new discs ,almost new calipers ,one new brake pipe , the existing pads and pins were 1 mnth old ( from Brook wells ).

The car had been in diff lock even before I had bought it so the previous owner must have had a nightmare of a drive ,the brakes were less than good ,and the body was rotten , although service receipts showed otherwise .

All that was now 3 to4 mnths ago ,with new panels from Y.R.M .and the expertise of a little old man in a wooly hat and his `gas` welding set ,plus the listening perception and knowledge of an excellant mechanic at 4xForty One ( I will not mention the boot floor done by my local Land Rover `specialist `) although I will have to list the costing ,) and today I have had fitted a straight through exhaust system which I sifted out from various stalls at Driffield for £ 75 , I have removed the E.G.R ( BLANKED OF ) I have also cut of ( by hack saw )the bend immediately prior to the air box .

The oils to axle`s ,transfer box ,gear box ,swivels ,have all been changed to new and correct fluids .

I am sure there is some thing else but I am content in knowing what I have done and NOW will go out and enjoy .

My first outing has been done and what a joy thanks to personal endevour and 4xForty one and the little old man in his woolly hat ( John from Lee Brigg Altofts Nr Wakefield ,)

Thank you all for your help . Coachman ( p.s look for wiring when cutting through anything)
