richie15
Hi all, has anyone else had this problem, the old filler/level plug on my r380 gearbox was knackered the torx drive was chewed up inside, managed to remove it and went to fit the new filler/level plug but the new one screwed in so far it fell inside the gearbox . can anyone tell me if i can retrieve it through the drain plug or is it a gearbox out job. any help would be much appreciated
richie15
well 2 hours,a bit of welding rod with a bit of speaker magnet taped to the end and a lot of swearing later job done. yes the oil filler/level plug will fit through the drain plug
Ladge
· I’m not 100% sure but I think the drain plugs hole is smaller than the filler, the plug should have dropped to the bottom of the box, and the drain plug is magnetic so it may have caught it. I’ll look it up
Ladge
Well in my parts manual it shows the drain bung as being larger than the filler, can’t really say more than that mate, you may be lucky or if may be a remove the gearbox job to get it out. Mr Noisy
Yes I once dropped the nozzle of an oil bottle in there I fished around for hours but couldn't get it, so left it. A bearing went noisy in the box fairly soon after (tbh I think unrelated) and after tearing the box down there was various bits of plastic around the places that it took us a little while to fish out All is well now though and a lesson learnt!
