Dave64
Hi All, A quick question on clutch plates.Doing a modification which calls for a 9&1/2" clutch plate with common U.S. 10 spline shaft. One I want is either 1&1/8" or 1&1/16",( can use either, have both input shafts). Will use whichever is the easiest size to locate. Plenty of listings for 9.5" X 10 spline, but DON'T give the spline diameter!. e.g. Borg & Beck HB2347 FRC 2297 C393AF OR C736AF If I have read right, early 4 cylinder petrol Land Rover's used them right up until changing to the fine splines? If you can confirm this, could you please advise with year(s) and models? Part numbers would be a huge help! e.g. 197? series 2A w/2.3L petrol or something similar. I am sick and tired of going to parts counters where some smart arse young bloke will stand there and argue with you that no such animal exists, because it's NOT on the computer and he is too lazy to look up cross reference charts. Living out in the sticks, I need positive ID before making a trip to a major centre which has a good transmission shop. Thanks in advance, Dave64
ejparrott
I take it you're looking for the top diameter of the splines? I don't know how much use it is to you, but the standard Series 3 gearboxes I have spare have an over spline size of 1.114" - probably a nominal 1 1/8". They are a 9.5" clutch and when I've fitted the TDi's in conversions I've always just used a Series 3 clutch.
Dave64
Thanks for that, hadn't measured it too good, it is actually one and a quarter inch X 10 spline U.S. Got a couple of answers on another vintage Ford site telling me that early sidevalve V8's used a nine and a half inch X one and a quarter inch 10 spline. May have to bite the bullet and take it into a regional centre and may even have to get one specially made. Just trying to avoid machining an input shaft if I can get away with it. Dave64
Also meant to ask, does anyone know the size of the crankshaft bore and depth (or a part number for an input shaft spigot bush) to suit a 1993 200 TDI engine?
