The following information is mainly directed at those who have just joined the LR4x4 forum, if you are a new user please read this first, also please read the other pinned post on this forum regarding the Forum Charter

Posting as a New User

Unfortunately due to the increasing popularity of the LR4x4 forum, it has recently come under attack by spammers and automatic "spam-bots" who have been posting some material which users would find objectionable to say the least, as well as regular spam.

For the time being, anybody registering as a new user will have to validate via an email address and then be approved by one of the Admins, and any initial posts they make will be subject to moderator approval before they appear on the site. For a new user this means they may have to wait 24 hours or so to be approved and then their first few posts approved by a moderator before this restriction is removed and they can post freely. We will endeavour to approve posts as quickly as possible but many of us do not sit at a PC all day so we ask for your patience on this.

We apologise for this inconvenience and a better solution will be implemented asap. Please don't let it put you off registering, its being done for a good reason ;)

None of this applies to regular (already registered) users or anybody that has been with us for a little while :)

A discussion on the current problems can be found here on the International forum.

LR4x4 Technical Archive

The LR4x4 forum has a thriving Technical Archive which contains answers to many of the commonly asked questions posed on the Forums.

Please take a moment to check the Tech Archive Index if you have a problem, if the answer isn't in there, then ask away :)

There is also a Search Function on the Forums which may help you find discussions related to your problem, we try to keep the Tech Archive fairly "pure tech" so the answer may still be Out There :)

Posting Photos

A simple guide to posting photographs or indeed any other graphic on this forum ...

The forum now has a facility to upload images into a post, or if you have personal web space from your ISP then you can store it there. If you don't, you can set up a free account with one of several photo hosting sites. One of the favourites is www.photobucket.com a free and easy to use site which supports not only JPEG images but also animated GIF's if you want a really annoying avatar, it will also do movie files now for video links.

If you have an image remotely hosted, you should insert it as follows:

- Make sure the cursor is in the right place for where you want the image to appear in your post

- Click the "IMG" button just above the window where you are typing your post, a User Prompt will appear

- Type (or paste) the URL of your image file given by Photobucket (e.g. my avatar is http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v120/scl...enguinflap2.gif )into the prompt and click OK. If you don't know the URL of your image, right click on it and select Properties - most browsers also have a Copy Image Location option or similar.

- The forum software will then enter an IMG tag in your text which will appear as the graphic when previewed - if you want to preview it then click "Preview Post" below the editing window.

Easy huh?

Finally, IMAGE SIZE! Please do not post pictures straight out of your digital camera! Preferred image size is no bigger than 600x450, take pity on those who have to sit there for a week on dialup waiting for images to download! Photos can be resized in most popular paint programs such as Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop Elements.

If you have Windows XP you can download the XP PowerToy Image Resizer to allow easy image resizing with just a couple of mouse clicks - so no excuses :P

This post will be sticky for ever (or at least for as long as nobody closes the forum down, I said that once before.... )
