pw8757
Some months ago, I had a problem with my Disco (V8 3.9efi running LPG) spontaneously cutting out. Not knowing much about ignition systems, I fiddled with the wires on the coil and it re-started on each occasion. However, as my commute involves the A1, clearly safety considerations meant the fault needed repair. The following Monday, having already stopped three times on the way to work and having promised to take some people out in the car during the day, I had to limp into my local garage, where I was assured they could fix the problem. Ten days later(!!) I got the car back and set off for home. When I got there, I looked under the bonnet to find the LPG emulators had been taken off and left hanging and the LPG system was disconnected. A return visit to the garage revealed they actually did not recall the basic rule for mechanics - if you don't know what you're doing - stop cutting bits of wire! Fortunately, some friends were kind enough to get the LPG going again, but the car was running very rough and progressively deteriorating, missing and backfiring on LPG to the point where petrol was the only option. I started looking at a well-known auction site for a replacement to the Disco and by chance came across PartsRange Yesterday, I set off to Norfolk, where I was looked after (including a free lunch!) whilst my car was fixed. The journey home said it all - all on LPG, better MPG, power where it should be, the steady throb of that Rover V8 - no more looking for a replacement for me!! But it was the way PartsRange did the job that was so impressive. Chris, the owner made sure I knew exactly what his team were doing - talked me out of spending an extra £200 on a higher spec distributor - and took the time to share his considerable experience of the V8 engine with me. PartsRange only deal with V8 engines, but also specialise in LPG conversions of them, so you get the best of both worlds. (They will also list reclaimed Land Rover parts for auction, on request.) I cannot think of the last time I was so impressed with motor vehicle servicing, so I'm doing what I said at the top of the thread - telling others!
