Quite possibly - it is a D3 after all. Just wait till you have to change the heater plugs :unsure:

Forget DIY fixes - you need to plug it into a diagnostic computer. The things are so damn complicated that any one of a dozen things could have caused it. You need some stored fault codes (which there will be, if a light has come on) to know where to go from there. I'd guess from experience that the most likely possibilities are a failed ABS speed sensor (which for some reason triggers panic mode in the suspension) or a failed height sensor / valve / compressor / pipe / spring / wiring harness in the air suspension system.

Dropping to the bump stops is a sort of fail safe thing which it does if it becomes all confused and emotional. Think of it as having PMT :)
