  1. So today I changed my 4 bolt power steering box on my 90 As the old one was leaking and the shaft needs to be worked on as its work quite abit.. to cut a long story short, changed it and bled it.. on my previous box, my wheels used to rub on the radius arms on full lock on both sides as my tires are big.. now with the new box, they rub on the radius arms on full lock to the right only and full lock to the left they dont.. also I noticed my steering wheel is off centre now.. since changing the box and noticing this problem I removed the drop arm, set the wheels to straight, set the steering wheel straight and tried to put the drop arm back on but the steering wheel turns to off centre to align up the drop arm... could the problem be in the steering rack itself as that was removed completely.. could it need some type of alignment? Quick answers will be highly appreciated as tomorrow is supposed to be play day
  2. the time has come that i need to fit a tank guard and steering guard to my 90.. was planning on making them my self.. does anyone have any designs or dimensions that i could work off? the plan is to use 5mm steel on both guards and re. tank guard, to have it bolt on the chassis and bolt on to the rock slider. thanks in advance. James
  3. the clutch was changed about three months ago.. somebody has told me that it could be the spogit bush? if that fails, could it cause the problem i have?

Hi guys, Something very strange is happening on the 90 now :/ I have recently had the clutch changed on my r380 gearbox... since then 2nd gear synchro mesh is starting to go (1st to 2nd is ok, but 3rd to 2nd is quite hard, near impossible if travelling at speed).. that's not bothering me.. but now I have realised that in flat ground (in my garage) if I put it in reverse, move back slowly and press the clutch (while in reverse gear) there are some strange noises and the landrover seems to jurk, brake and come to a stand still.. any idea what it can be? Front axle is a 10 spline and rear is a 24 spline with an arb locker.
  5. So I had some time to play around with the roof.. what do you think?

So I tried some panel beating work (for the first time ever) on the roof.. didnt have any large pieces of wood to be able to use any jacks, and didn't have any backing plates to use.. so resorted to using a piece of flat bar and my trusty hammer the result isn't perfect but it's enough for today.. I very much doubt that the side panel is repairable in place as it just pops in and out quite freely :/
  7. Ye it's an off road toy but also a secondary car.. I would rather try repair than buy new sided and a roof ... and ye through garage I'd nice and big.. 7 car..
  8. Hi guys, So yesterday I had a small roll with my 90. End result included damage to the front drivers mudguard and rear part of the hard top. The mudguard doesn't bother me at all. But the hard top damage really bugs me. Any ideas how I can repair it without removing the roof?
  9. might be a little bit expensive as im from Malta. ive got everything i need as in bending and welding material.. im good with my hands and thought i would give it a try..
  10. Hi all, I plan on building my own cage for my 1989 90. I am planning on make the windscreen surrounding part external and coming over the cab and entering from the roof to an internal main hoop. She has a hard top in winter and bikini top in summer, so i am not planning for a full cage, just a main hoop and a cab section. Where can i get some measurements from? James
  11. So still haven't had the time to check oils but that will be done very soon!!! Last night I removed the front prop shaft because a uj is failing.. I found out that the output flange where the front prop shaft fits onto (on the transfer box) was loose.. I tightened it and decided to go for drive around the block to see if that had anything to do with the noise. The noise is still there both on acceleration and over run.. but now on over run, there is a very bad noise coming from either the gearbox or the transferbox... it sounds like it's trying to disengage the gear..

Still haven't had the chance to drain the oil and check it :/ From what I can tell, the noise is related the engine speed and not road speed.. with the transfer box in neutral and main box in gear, there is no noise same goes for the main box in neutral and transfer box in gear.. I haven't heard the noise in reverse but then again, I reverse at low revs so I'll try reverse abit agressivly next time and see what happens. The noise is there through all the gears, 1,2,3,4,5.. ????

  14. when the noise first started, levels were fine.. transfer box looked as though there was water present but i had drained it and refilled it.. i have plans to drain both boxes and refill with new oil to be sure 100%. yes the vehicle rolls freely in neutral as well as in gear with the clutch disengaged.. once ive changed oils and if the noise remains which i think it will, what will you suggest next?
  15. Hi there, Can anybody tell me if it is the transfer box or the actual gearbox that is causing the noise.. On acceleration and overrun there is a very loud whining noise coming from the gearbox area. It has got worse over the months and my mechanic has said that it is because i dont have a proper l/r tunnel carpet >>>>> B**LS**T!!!!! I have 35 inch insa turbo tyres on my 90 which are nice and loud cruising down the road... with this whining noise, i cant even hear them.. that is how bad it is.. 4 days ago a slight metallic sound has come into the picture and im abit worried to be honest that the whole thing is gonna blow up.. Are there any ways that i can check in order to find out if its the gearbox or transfer box? James
  16. So, i have a leak from my 4 bolt steering box... is it possible to fix in place or do i need to remove it?

I just wanted to introduce myself to all of you as im quite sure im going to be getting some advice from most of you.
