  1. PEAK DISTRICT PROTESTS

Building on the success of our ‘Back to Tarmac’ day on 21st October, we now invite you to join us for the second event on Sunday, 25th November.

We have taken on-board your comments, and this time we are focusing on the main roads and the larger towns in the key areas.

As before, we shall be meeting at 10.00am in the car park at the rear of the Monsall Head Hotel at grid ref: SK 185 715, which is about 1.4 miles north of Ashford in the Water.

The route this time is from Monsal Head car park - Ashford in the Water - A6 - Buxton - Dove Holes - Sparrowpit - unclassified road to Winnats Pass - A6187 - Castleton - Hathersage - right on the B6001 - Grindleford - Calver cross roads - A623 - Baslow - through Chatsworth Park on the B6012 - Rowsley - A6 - Bakewell turn right through Ashford again on the B6465 to finish at the Yonderman Café at Wardlow Mires on the junction with the A623.

Through Dropbox you can access placards for your vehicle, and map overlays for the routes:

An A4 placard is available for use inside vehicle rear and side windows.

Please print one or three off before you set out, for the rear and both side windows, (if you have them).

In a plastic sleeve, this will also work on the cover of a rear door mounted spare wheel, or the back of a motorcyclist’s jacket (with duct tape!):

The Route is available from the link below overdrawn on an OS Map extract for printing, to save marking your maps:

PLEASE FORWARD THIS NOTE TO ANY AFFILIATED TRAIL RIDING OR 4X4 GROUPS

Thank you, see on the 25th

  2. Should anyone be in any doubt about the need for as many people as possible to send objections to the Peak District National Park to the proposed TROs on Roych and Long Causeway, then please see the emails below from Peak District Green Lane Alliance asking GLEAM to urge all their members, nationally, to respond, and GLEAM's supporting email to its members.

GLEAM, at least, are expecting all 3000 members of the TRF to respond! At one level, this is definitely a numbers game, which we MUST win.

Subject: Consultation by The Peak District National Park Authority on two proposed Traffic Regulation Orders

    Dear Member,

I attach below an email which has been circulated by John Newrick, a leading member of the Peak District Green Lane Alliance, to all members of the PDGLA and lovers of the PEAK District.

Before responding to the consultation I suggest you use the Internet link towards the bottom of this email. This will tell you more about the two proposed TROs banning motor vehicles on Long Causeway and The Roych. You will then be able to respond with more knowledge of what you are talking about.

You will see that the Trail Riders Fellowship with over 3,000 members are lobbying the PDNPA en masse asking them not to ban vehicles, particularly motor bikes. It is therefore incumbent on all people who wish to preserve public rights of way from motor vehicular damage to respond to this consultation, even if they do not live in the Peak District. This includes all members of GLEAM.

I would therefore be grateful if you would respond in your own words to this consultation to PDNPA before 2nd November. You will have to respond separately for each of the two ways in question.

    David Gardiner

    Chairman, GLEAM

  3. THIS IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE - ACT NOW

    Further to the above...

The Peak District National Park want to ban all recreational vehicular users and are proposing to do this by a series of TRO (Traffic Regulation Orders), even though we have been in discussions with them.

The first two are probably the most iconic lanes in the the Park – Roych Clough and Stanage Edge.

    Documents can be found here:

    http://www.peakdistr...nsultation-2012

It's now just a numbers game and we need you to write/email PDNP and oppose the TROs. One or two sentences will do!

If it's not obvious, you need to email:

    long.causeway@peakdistrict.gov.uk

    and

    roych@peakdistrict.gov.uk

ASK FOR CONFIRMATION OF RECEIPT OF EMAIL

If you need help, please ask.

IT'S POTENTIALLY THE END OF LANING IN THE PEAK DISTRICT...

Please write now. Get friends and family to do the same.

If this succeeds, other national parks will follow suit.

  4. Hi all

You may have heard by now of a TRO proposal in the Chute area of Wiltshire. Word has it that the CC have received 97 replies in favour of the TRO. Can I urge you all to write in objection to the TRO, otherwise it's looking highly likely that we'll lose it. The lane is not in a bad condition, and a TRO is unjustified.

    Please see below:

Our ref: AS/P.C.149, 63 Your ref:

    Dear ,

SECTION 1 OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

PERMANENT TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER TO CLOSE TO ALL MOTORISED VEHICLES BYWAY 30, LUDGERSHALL AND BYWAYS 32, 34 AND 36, CHUTE

Wiltshire County Council are proposing to place a permanent Traffic Regulation Order preventing all motorised vehicles from using Byway 30 Ludgershall and Byways 32, 34 and 36 Chute. I have attached a map for clarity of location. Byway 30 Ludgershall runs in a northerly direction from its junction with Crossroads Biddesden Park (point A) for 299 metres. Byway 32 Chute continues from Byway 30 Lugershall (point B) in a northerly direction for 2138 metres. Byway 34 Chute continues in a northerly direction from Byway 32 Chute (point C) for 1802 metres until its junction with Chute Causeway (point D). Byway 36 Chute runs in an easterly direction from its intersection with Byway 32 and 34 Chute (point C) for 440 metres to its junction with Malthouse Lane (point E).

The reasons for the closure are as follows:

“(a) for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such dander arising, or

    (B) for preventing damage to the road or to any building on or near the road, or

    (d) for preventing the use of the road by vehicular traffic of a kind which, or its use by vehicular traffic in a manner which is unsuitable having regard to the existing character of the road or adjoining property, or

    (e) (without prejudice to the generality of paragraph (d) above) for preserving the character of the road in a case where it is especially suitable for use by persons on horseback or on foot

    (f) for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs”

I would therefore be very grateful if you could forward to me in writing any comments or representations which you would like to make regarding the proposals by Monday 2nd February 2009.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

    Yours sincerely

  5. it would block vision a bit outa the rear, but what about on the top tailgate? you'd need some stonger arms (on the door) though.

You don't lose that much vision as it's mounted fairly low.

Top tailgate wouldn't be strong enough and even if it was you'd be overdosing on spinach!

  6. I have recently fitted new wheels and tyres but i can not get the spare in the back so i have toyed with the idea of fitting the spare on the roof. I do not want a roof rack and i deffo do not want to fit the spare on the bonnet. can anyone advise me on what i will need to do to fit it please

Here is my idea, if anyone has a better idea i am all ears. I thought about fitting a 250mm square plate to the bonnet with four bolts securing it to the roof and weld two bolts to this plate spacing them for two bolt holes, does this sound OK?

Try a swing away spare wheel carrier. Check out my albums - when I built my bob, I tried the bonnet and the rear. Sometimes both!

  7. I've got an 82 Rangie with the fat brake servo. Every so often the brakes go hard and I lose servo assistance - not ideal! As the old fat servos are over £300, I was thinking of changing over to the later slim, pan type servo. Does anyone know if this is a simple swap or will modifications have to be made?

For instance, will the brake pipe connections reach?

Will the servo bolt onto the existing pedal box?

Or am I missing the point entirely and another problem is at fault?!!!

    Thanks

  8. There should be a thick lead going from the chassis/negative battery terminal to the engine somewhere, just no necessarily to the starter motor bolts.

If there isn't.... or to test if it is the issue (damaged, frayed cable etc.), try a jump lead between the negative battery terminal and the starter motor bolts, if there's a missing/faulty earth then this should bypass it.

You can also check your positive lead in the same way, just dont let it touch anything except the terminal on the starter! ;)

If you do need to replace the earth, it is a good idea to go straight to the starter motor bolts, rather than anywhere else on the engine.

    HTH.

Yeaaaa! I connected a jump leads from (-) terminal on the battery, to the starter motor battery, then another from the (-) to the engine, and perfect starting cranking first time - BRILLIANT! So thanks for that chaps. Sometimes you do need second opinions! I reckon the old engine to earth lead wasn't earthing out properly. I'll order in some decent leads and for good measure will connect both to the engine & starter bolt to the (-) terminal.

    Cheers!

  9. I haven't got any earth lead from the battery to the engine, just battery to chassis. There's also one from the engine to the chassis, tho probably could do with being a bit beefier. The battery is in the back of the truck. I've tried bypassing the + & - leads with jumps leads (very carefully of course!), but haven't tried the neg lead direct to the starter motor bolt. Will give it a go this eve.

  10. I'm not sure. Had her tuned up professionally earlier this year and she's been running fine up to a few weeks back. I've checked the distributor to see if it's come loose in order to cause a timing issue, and it's not. I'm not sure what the timing is currently set at as I haven't checked. Anyway, if you say I'd have the same problem when the engine's warm, then it can't be that.

There's no misfire and I can detect no loss of power.

Could anything else break in the engine and not cause a misfire?

  11. I suspect the starter motor is past its best ............... then they draw loads of current and run slower.........

Change it for a known good unit.................. (not Prestolite)

    Ian

Replaced already with a brand new one from Land Rover. Also tried a spare before that as well.

  12. Can anybody help please - it's driving me nuts! The engine on my Tomcat cranks over real slow - sometimes catches and starts, sometimes doesn't. Once warmed up a bit, there's no problem starting at all. I think the problem has been building gradually.

Sooo, things I've tried to no avail:

    Charged battery

    Tried another battery.

Checked and cleaned up earth cable.

Checked and cleaned up live cable.

    Replaced starter.

Connected jump leads direct from battery to starter and from battery to earth.

Could the timing be out and cause slow cranking? If so, wouldn't I still get slow cranking when the engine is warm?

I then took out the two front plugs out (one on the front of each side) and the engine turned over ok. I next plan to take out all the plugs and see if I can turn the engine over by hand. My thoughts are if the engine turns by hand, then the problem's not in the engine. If it doesn't turn by hand, could it be a broken rocker arm?

    Any thoughts much appreciated.

  13. Can anyone tel me the correct order to connect the wires to the wiper motor are please? Part of the harness is missing.

    The wire colours are:

    Blue/Light green

    Green

    Red/Light green

    Black

    Brown/Light green

I've attached a picture of the block on the motor to show the layout and have given them numbers. I'm pretty sure Black is the horizontal one at the top (1).

My wipers have a slow speed, a fast speed, an intermittent speed and self park. Help would be much appreciated as I've blown to many fuses!!!

    Thanks

Can anybody supply me with user evidence during the period Jan 2000 - Jan 2005? Ideally stating the route, when and how often you've driven it during the period, how many were in your group, whether you saw any other users, and if possible photographs. Name and address if possible, but if not, name and town / city will do.

    Please email me on:
