  1. In the recent snow, was called out several times to recover friends stuck in snow. Not done much of this so am thinking what is the best rope/ strap to buy now, ready for next time, particularly as the rope has to fit these modern tow hooks on cars now, not the biggest- for instance new minis. Any advice greatly appreciated.

  2. I have several series, self contained, wiper motors. Most of them are missing the internal clip that holds them together inside, lost or broken when re-greasing.

Anyone know where to get these please?

  3. Have fitted a work light to the back of my 1991 Defender tdi and was wondering where the best place might be to put the switch and warning light, can't seem to find any sort of ready made panel to house them, any pics, ideas would be great. Also I have several Series Wiper motors, most need that little horse shoe shape clip fitting internally, any idea where I can get some? Many thanks.

  4. After having my rear small widow removed and back door opened and stuff knicked out of the back, I am trying to replace it while hopefully making things harder for the thieving ******* in future. I have order some rear window mesh guards from Devon 4x4 which look useful, anyone fitted these? Is it difficult?

Also, as they took the window with them for some reason I have bought a new window and seals, any tips for fitting this please? Please all beware just how easy it is to open a locked rear station wagon door by removing the small onside rear window !! Many thanks all.

  5. Hi all. Had to fit a new battery today,as old one found out by the cold. This new one is a bit taller, so I didn't need the strip of wood which was previously under the metal battery clamp. All went in fine but im a bit worried as to whether the lead coming out of the positive, could possibly touch the metal clamp as it is vey close. I have taped all around it and put a good thick cloth on the clamp. What would happen if it touched ? Fuse everything ? Many thanks, seems fine, but better safe than sorry.

  6. I have bought second hand, an old panasonic sub woofer for only a few quid. However I dont know how to wire it up to my Sony CDX head unit. I have the wiring loom with it but can't find anywhere to download a manual, any general help would be much appreciated. Will prob. mount it on the bulkhead behind the cubby box. The loom has a red and a brown earth, and 2 sets of twin speaker cables.

    Cheers.

  7. Until funds allow me to think about new wheels for my 1991 '90', I am in need of removing the surface rust and repainting the original 16ins white painted wheels. Can anyone recommend the best paint to apply by brush to achieve a reasonable job to last a couple of years at least and any other experiences of making these wheels look better, many thanks. :D

  8. Had the pleasure of stumbling across Christian autos today. Needed a new exhaust, first job on my first land rover. Pete gave me an awesome price, rounded down the total. Had a bracket I was convinced would be a main dealer only part. After paying I realised I hadn't got some bolts I needed and as I didn't have the cash on me, Pete told me not to worry we could sort it out if I went back again. I will definitely go back again and recommend them to everyone I can. Incredible good service and knowledge. Very very impressed.

Yes Pete is top man, just ignore the fact he supports Leeds Utd. Given me excellent service for years. :D

  9. Since Landrovers UK moved, they're that bit too far away now, so looking around for a new one to do my services and bits of repair work. Anyone used Steve Hill out towards Bristol? Or can anyone recommend any others ?

    Thanks

Steve hill does a brilliant job and often picks up and delivers back my defender

when he is able to. Not the cheapest but certainly value for money and reliable. :D

  10. Had a puncture today in my 1991 Defender, managed to get the spare on ok in the siberian wasteland that is Bristol at the moment, all good so far. Off I go to the Tyre place - straight in lovely, but agh- sorry we don't stock innertubes, try a place in town- tried 4 places in town, no tubes. Eventually found a wholesaler who sold the sought after tubes

    - so I bought 3 to have a couple of spares. Therefore if you run on tubed tyres, and many of us do - it maybe worth getting a couple if the chance arises as they seem to be getting very scarce. My tyres are 17ins but a 16ins tube fits these no problem, as I learned today. Merry Christmas all. :D

  11. Do you drive off road?

If so, don't spend good money on alloys as you will trash them in short order.

What about steel modulars? Cheap and fixable with a hammer..... they look good on a defender too...

Steel modulars it is then, apparently pre 1993 Defenders are tricky to get the right size?
