I raise this as an example of what the Freelander can do, not what it should...)
Very good point.

@Blippie, is that Tarr Steps by any chance?
Cheers

I believe the rear (boot) door seal is the usual culprit, or an incorrectly fitted hardtop if that's what you have rather than a S/W.

No wading plugs and the manual quotes 400mm maximum.

Nice one, and a very kind offer too.

No worries, mine's a '54' plate 'Landmark' edition.
Yours looks good, look forward to seeing the other pictures.

I like the sound of this a lot, could you email me some photo's please?
I've got to sell my D2 yet unless you were interested in a swap + cash, I was looking for £8.5k ONO for mine, let me know if you need any more details.
Cheers.

As above.
What year/spec. is your 110? I have a D2 and was thinking of going the other way?

there are several reasons why you might want 16s -
- better choice of AT and MT tyres
- tyres are usually cheaper
- 18in tyres are bad for tramlining in grooves in the road, 16s are much better
- 16in tyres give a much better ride on rough surfaces
People usually upgrade to 18s for the "looks" (personally I think low profile tyres look wrong on any 4x4 but that's just me, the BMW X5s getting around now on rubber bands look frankly ridiculous) and a probably incorrect perception that low profile tyres equal much better handling. Having driven quite a few Discoverys in the course of my last job I don't think the tyre diameter makes any difference - and I still prefer the ride/handling of my D2 to any I've driven with either 18s or ACE (and in many cases both).
+1 on that.
I went from 18" rims to 16" rims, best 'mod' you can do.

I enjoyed tonight's episode, I missed the first one, better have a look on iPlayer...

Had the same thing with my D2 a few months back, I ended up changing the lock/latch unit, I went for a genuine new part as didn't want to risk using a second hand one that could fail at any time, more details of how I did it here - http://www.greenlandrover.org.uk/new-front-door-latch/

Have you checked that the turbo wastegate is 'free' and not sticking closed? Also I've heard of similar symptoms when crankshaft position sensor is duff.

Modchop is that a Terrafirma hitch, or something else?
I really like the idea of these but ~£200 for the Terrafirma model plus a tow bar plus a recovery hitch is a bit too much for my tastes

Hi Matt
I bought it from Safari-Equip back in 2009, it seems a well made bit of kit, I paid around £125 for it as a 'cash' deal at the Peterborough show.

Jason, can't you just drill and tap a hole in the side of the receiver square. An M10 screw or two in there should add just enough pressure to elimate the slack.
Mine has a similar arrangement, no rattles so far.

I'll echo what Bogmonster says, I've also owned D2's both with and without ACE and the advantages are minimal especially as the system gets older and potentially expensive to maintain.
-
How about this one from Raptor? - http://www.raptor-engineering.co.uk/Cubby-Box
I've no personal experience of them but have heard good reports about them.
-
They are now owned by Trek Overland.
And the couple (Nigel and Pamela) that started it have gone traveling.
Andy
That's the one!
Apologies for the wrong link.

I heard that they'd been bought out by these people - http://www.touring-gear.com/ not 100% sure though I'm sure someone can confirm/deny that.

Just got home, it was quiet, shame that a lot of traders decided to pull out and visitor numbers were down LOADS compared to last year.
Obviously sheepdog trials weren't tempting enough for some...
I noticed the same kind of thing at the 'Indoor 4x4 Show' earlier this year, barring the sheep dog trials...
I think it's time for a 'cull' of the shows to be honest, too many spread too thinly and the high cost of entry seem to be the big factors for not going according to the majority of people I've spoken to.

The new LRA forum is a prime example of how not to migrate a forum, they've upset a lot of people with poor handling of the situation and even more with the dreadful 'new' layout, it's like stepping back in time 10 years. The word 'bogroll' seems to have been used a lot to describe the new layout with good reason.

All pretty straightforward, I've attached the service sheets below, hopefully they're good enough quality to read.

Sounds like a swap may be in order
I've got a '54 plate 'Landmark'

This was on offer at Halfords last week at half price, not sure if the deal is still going on, I bought 8 litres of Castrol for £35.
