THanks for all your replys guys. Can i use a disco V8 R380 box. I dont mind about the selectors being in the "wrong" place as ive already overcome this problem with my current set-up. Just want to confirm it wont make the engine sit to far forward before i go and get on. Cheers, Pete

Hi all, I am currently planning to fit a Rover 4.6 v8 into my defender. Currently running a disco 300tdi mated to a disco r380 box and disco transfer box. My question is is this actually possible. Have come across a couple of threads suggesting that the gear ratios will be wrong. Another potential problem that was highlighted was that the engine will sit to far back however i have use the disco (long) bellhousing so think that the clearance issue wont be a problem. Any advice or help very much appreciated! Cheers Pete

Hi mate and everyone else on this forum. Just wondering how you found the standard wings? A mate of a mate said to just go with the extreme north offroad ones and not the standard ones as the standard ones have a habbit of bening back up into the way of the wheel. Just wondering if you'd had a similar problem? Cheers Pete

Hi i am currently replacing the front turrets on my 90 as the old ones have had it. i already have a 2" lift fitted and was wondering if i fit lowered turrets wot effect they will have? Will they provide greater articulation or just lift the vehicle higher?? Also will i need to start fitting dislocation cones? Cheers

Rover 4.6 V8 to Disco R380
in Range Rover Forum

Hi guys. I have a 4.6 Rover V8 out of a Rangerover which was originally fitted to an auto box which i want to mate to a V8 R380 originally out of a disco and then stick in a defender. Ordered a clutch for the V8 and it came with the release bearing built into the clutch pressure plate which is obviosuly different from the Disco R380 setup which has a seperate release bearing. My qustion is what is the easiest way to resolve this issue? Can the clutch fork in the R380 be changed so it will work with the rangy clutch or will i have to get a clutch for a 3.5 lump for a disco and use that? Cheers Pete
