  1. I was thinking more along the lines of; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LEYLAND-DAF-6-CYLINDER-TURBO-ENGINE-CUMMINGS-DAF-45-/400205507487?pt=UK_Commercial_Trucks&hash=item5d2e1b6b9f#ht_548wt_1139
  2. I keep humming and hawing about building a 90 on a galvy chassis but I really want to be a deviant and build something a bit more "unique". I have a love of the 101 and the old 2a but they were designed to be load carriers with off road capabilities and not an "off roader" and leaf sprung. This is going to be a "Q" plate project I guess but would be nice if not, but not fussed. Thinking about using a 110 chassis, mounting the engine in the middle and using a forward control configuration with raised suspension and seating. Think 101 on steroids? now, The Engine.... Petrol is out for me and I want a big diesel. So what to choose ? Cummins 6BT is my favourite for the moment as its enough to power a 7.5Ton truck and most busses! GMC ? Perkins JCB Let me know your thoughts on this project and any ideas you may have. Cheers Mike
  3. Im starting work on a custom 110" hybrid and i plan to turn the engine around to face the rear, flip both front and rear axles and have a mid engined concept. If i turn an axle upside down is this going to cause any damage to the diff and what would i need to change apart from the obvious suspension components ? thanks Mike
  4. Hi, Im changing my chassis on my 90 to a galvy one. I have ordered a full bush kit and wondered what else i should replace while im at it. What are the typical bolt sizes i will need when doing the swap. Thanks Mike
  5. did you expect them to come out with a trolly full of stilton ?!
  6. i bought one last year and its okay if you like replacing fuses once it heats up..... wired it up to a 32A socket with a 45a breaker and its fine now (RCD protected too)
  7. thanks for your help, i will have to get the wire brush out i think im paranoid but you never know....
  8. Where are the numbers on a defender ? I want to check everything ties up with the V5 as the previous owner has given me doubts about the authenticity of the vehicle.... I know there is the plate rivited in the engine bay, which is okay. But where else are the numbers ? Cheers Mike
  9. i have problems with the injectors on mine, does nothing then once you have lots of rpm its like the turbo kicks in. (in actual fact its running on 4cyl then on 5 once the injector fires)
  10. yeah an lt77 i stripped suffered the same fate.... im in Deer Park up by the golf course.
  11. cheers Aragorn i see your from Livi too, want to build a gear box ?
  12. thanks guys my head was full of all sorts. i have availible a td5 r380 thats where that came from. disco v8 stuff would make sense as its a v8
  13. okay i think im catching on to this its pretty similar to the lt77s i need a discovery r380 input shaft and bellhousing from a td5, and a defender r380 gearbox. this would then give me the difflock and gear change in the correct place ?
  14. so am i just looking for a v8 discovery bell housing from 1995> ?
  15. This is as clear as mud My 90 has a v8 with a lt77 and long bell housing. (not the same length as a 200tdi box) If i fit an r380 with the correct bellhousing for the gearbox, will this mean my engine will need moved further back ? i would like to retain my propshafts as they are new.
  16. Hi Guys What bellhousing do i need to use with the r380 and a v8 ? currently have an lt77 and a long bell housing. i guess a diesel one has a different bolt pattern to a v8??
  17. you should stick to making the tea !! infact, you never made me a cup of tea once ?! lol
  18. Thanks to all who helped ! For a v8 to run it helps if the fuel pump is wired correctly ! Its no use sucking all the fuel out of the engine !!
  19. Hi me again with another problem... ! Engine > 89 range rover 3.9 Efi When cranking what voltages should i have at the ignition amplifier ?? What basic voltage checks can i do to make sure all is well ? The engine was running when it was in the range rover, but wont start in the 90 Cheers Mike
  20. Hi, how does this work and what goes where ? Taken a 3.9Efi from a RR to a 90 and have a few bits i dont know go where ! Pics/Diagrams or a good explanation would be great! Cheers Mike
  21. i have had similar symptoms when my head gasket went. has happened twice on my 110 td5.
  22. Hi guys, im helping another member with a 3.9efi conversion and im looking for some assistance with the wiring. the engine and all ancilarys work as we removed them from a running 1989 rangerover. so far i have managed to get the engine turning over and main relays click. checked for spark from a spark plug but none. so, 1. can anyone advise me on what the connections and wire colours are on the white plug on the rangerover connector ? 2. has anyone got the pin outs on the 200tdi engine plug (rectangle one) 3. does the fuel system need to be presurised to get a spark ? 4. the coil +12v can be taken from the aux on the altenator ?? 5. the interference suppressor is it important ? any other hints tips appreciated. oh, im not going carb or megasquirt on this one ! cheers mike
