  1. As title really, I'm fitting a disco 1 front axle on my Range Rover project and using a disco 2 r380 and lt230, I know the flange on the lt230 is different on a d2, just wondered if the diff flanges were the same, as if they are I should then be able to run a d2 double cardan front prop
  2. Edit....would still like to know the differences BUT I found I'd been uncharacteristically organised and kept a copy of the vin for the long dead disco... it's MA so later stuff
  3. I have some discovery axles that I'm fitting to my Range Rover. I know they are roughly '93 vintage but how do I know if they are pre or post JA032850 which is the break point on paddock spares catalogue for the various hub parts?

  5. Great that's what I was hoping to hear!! My experience is exactly as you describe, but mine doesn't include any significant Land Rover experience until now! Many thanksr your help
  6. Anybody running their disco 1 or Range Rover without brake mud shield/backplates? I'm doing a pretty serious restoration on a rangey and pondering leaving them off. I restore cars and build competition cars for a living and never tend to fit them on "non-original" type work. I'm not planning serious off road with the rangey and wondered if anybody had gone without them and whether stones in calipers etc was a resultant issue. In my car based experience I find that they make no difference and most gravel rally cars run without them
  7. And the r380 that I stripped the other evening ready for casing decarb and bead blast then to Ashcroft for machining for big rear bearings
  8. Lt230 stripped so casing can be decarbonised and steam cleaned and bead blasted then go to ashcrofts for sleeving
  9. Few more bits n bobs, been sorting out axle and suspension bits this evening. I've ended up with 6 axles, 2 from the original Range Rover, which at 1989 im guessing will be 10 spline, plus a pair from a '94 300tdi disco and a pair from a '95 v8 disco which I assume will both be the same internal? The 300tdi front casing is quite nice so I think I will use that for the front, diff feels good too though I will dismantle and check it when I have the axle stripped for blasting. All the rears are fairly rusty so will pick the better of the disco ones.
  10. As a little hint of om606 power, here's a video by dpuk of a customer Land Rover on thé dyno. Yes the "intro" is a little annoying but the results speak for themselves
  11. I've also acquired a holset hx35w from a truck which I will rebuild and keep to one side ready to break the axles! the diesel pump for the engine will be from dieselmeken in Sweden but prob via Luke Dale at diesel pump uk as it doesn't make sense to source it myself when he brings them over in bulk. I will go for 7.5mm éléments, I certainly won't be able to use over 350hp without breaking everything so it's a case of being limited by transmission!!
  12. And that almost gets up to date! i have bought a used and fairly tired suffix L r380 box and transfer box from a disco td5 which last week in a couple of hours in an evening I stripped completely so the rear casing can go off for machining for larger bearings. Today I stripped the lt230 so its casing can also go off to be sleeved. I have a new 300tdi suffix k/l input shaft and will get full rebuild kits for r380 and transfer and the latter will get an Ashcroft lsd centre diff too. Fingers crossed we will see what torque it will all stand....!!!!!!
  13. .....and body the same inside and out. Will paint the pillars later on (and sand back and properly paint the rear arch faces too as I messed up the finish on the raptor there, went on perfect then caught it with the airline lol)
  14. And the chassis with the same treatment ....... will get waxed internally
  15. All zinc metal sprayed. Can go in the sea for 20 years now and not rust!
  16. Donned the lovely clemco helmet and had a fri and Saturday off work so I had a good stint at it, got body blasted and thermal zinc sprayed (metal spray gun) in a day, then chassis the following day, then got both painted in black raptor truck bed liner (thinned and put on with 2.5mm nozzle in Sata PRI gun)
  17. Progress punctuated by my brother's stag do and wedding, got the chassis stripped and ready for blasting in under 2 hours which I thought must be a "things going smoothly" record (and testament to the gas axe removing all the bolts lol) the eagle eyed will spot something amiss chassis wise, but then I know this isn't a nit picking forum ;-)
  18. Quick mockup of the front end to check clearances and the rear end about done......
  19. Got a bit slack on the photo taking and my old phone was becoming poorly after 4 years in a metal shop, but a few more bits of progress around Christmas time iirc
