  1. Went to my brother in laws to weld up the brackets to moount the i.c and to have a mooch at the pieces of stainless tube he had in his garage.

Firstly I got the 2 90 degree silicone elbows and put them on the new i.c and offered it up infront of the radiator. To keep the ic as far back as possible i cut approx 1.5 inches off each elbow @ the ic joint. I also took the same amount off the other end of the elbow for the inlet side.

On the front chassis legs right where the bumper mounts to the chassis we measured and made some 80mm longx10.5mm internal diameter tubing for locating the 2 lugs on the td5 i.c.

I had bought some 90 degree steel brackets for 60p each and these were cut down and welded to the underside of the front panel where the bonnet catch is, the ic bolts to these brackets.

The front locating lugs on the ic were cut off too.

We removed existing i.c and cut down its plastic cover to give access into the engine bay down the side of the rad.

A piece of stainless comes from the outlet side of the ic diagonally across the front of the radiator and bends into the engine bay and uses the stock top ic hose.

The inlet side uses the stock pipework from the turbo going into a u bend then into the silicone elbow on the ic.

Finally the front grill required very minor trimming of its inside to all ow it to fit.

  2. I have a td5 intercooler to fit into my 200 tdi disco.

I have phoned the insurance company - Adrian Flux, and they want to know what increase in bhp using this intercooler will give.

Assume there are no other mods what increase in bhp would you estimate?

  3. Where is "Tipton" by the way?

    Jas

You mean you've never heard of Tipton? :P

Where the railway crossings are closed for 48 minutes in every hour!

The home of the Tipton Slasher and Pork Scratchings!!!! :D

The centre of the world famous Black Country!

Its 1 mile from Dudley, have you heard of there????? ;)

  4. After placing a wanted add for a Td5 intercooler I got to buy one from which was delivered yesterday.

This afternoon I got to take a look at what was actually involved in fitting it into the front of the 200 tdi Discovery.

After removing the grill and headlight surrounds I offered the 'new' ic to the front of the car and from this was able to determine how best to proceed with the fitting, it was obvious it wasn't going to be as straight forward as first thought.

The front panel to which the bonnet closes is supported by 2 braces going from the bonnet catch diagonally to the bottom of the small panel where the horns are fitted. I unbolted both of these bars and removed them.

Next after offering up the ic again I decided that the right hand horn had to be removed completely as did most of the metal the horn bolts to. Out came the grinder, I think this picture shows what I used it for.

The right side had to be cut away as this picture shows to clear the inlet on the ic.

On the left hand side the horn was reversed and only a small amount of trimming was required.

There is now sufficient room for the 'new' ic and when the standard ic is removed i'll be routing the pipework through the vacated area.

Now a plea for help as i dont own a welder and need some brackets fabricating. Is there anyone reasonably close to me that would be prepared to help me with this part of the upgrade please?

Gotta get me some silicone hoses now and sone straight pipe so that the plumbing can start.

If you can help us out then please let me know.

  5. I checked the measurements before buying one and this was the information I got ,THEY ARE 24 INCH CORE 29 INCH OVER ALL ,9.5 INCH HIGH 2 INCH DEEP WITH 50mm OUTLETS.

    Quick calculations are

STANDARD IC total size (width x depth x height) 221.61 inches

TD5 IC total size (width x depth x height) 456.00 inches

STANDARD IC frontal area (width x height) 80.58 inches

TD5 IC frontal area (width x height) 228.00 inches

    cheers nathan

  6. I've bought a Td 5 intercooler to go into my 200 tdi discovery and wondered if anyone else has done this conversion, how they did it, what pipework you needed and where you bought it from?

Basically any ideas, suggestions and advice greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Nathan

  7. An update.

I have now fitted the boost gauge mounting it under the cigarette lighter and running the pipe through the grommet for the clutch cable in the bulkhead.

I have then run the pipe around the back of the engine to the pipe between turbo and actuator and t'd in there.

I'm very pleased with the result.

  8. Hi mate if youre gonna do strada florida then you may as well do this lane just south of it starting at

soar y mynydd and going over to the mountain road from llanddewi brefi

Theres a youth hostel on this orpa, dont know if thats any good to you.

Alternatively in llanddewi brefi itself theres a pub called the new inn does b+b.

give us a shout when youre going down that way as i may be able to meet up with you in the area.

  9. Ok folks need your help and advice before embarking on things.

I have just bought a boost gauge 20psi and want to know the best place to put the t-piece, is it on the pipe between turbo and actuator or the turbo pipe at the ip?

The pipes from the turbo to the intercooler and from the intercooler to inlet manifold feel soft. The first section of 'flexi' pipe from the turbo to the metal intermediate pipe expands when the engine is revved is this normal?

Now, what i've described as the intermediate metal pipe between turbo and intercooler narrows and this seems it could be restrictive to airflow. Can any power or torque be gained by replacing this pipe with a less restrictive one?

    Looking forward to your replies.

  10. Many years ago just out of interest i found, out about and visited an offroad site in cannock on what i think was on the poplar landfill site.

Does anyone know if it still takes place or goes on?

Might have been organised by 'Llama' something or the other?

Cant tell oyu much more im afraid as i say i wasn't into 4x4 back then but enjoyed the afternoon watching non the less.

  11. I had this happen on a Citroen 2.1 diesel I used to have and it turned out to be the rubber seal in the bottom of the fuel filter where you drain out the water from was perished. so it would bleed initially but then soon get air in it again.

dont know if that helps at all.

  12. must be one of the routes hes negotiated with land owners as mentioned in the first post then?

either a paid for tour like described here or just an experienced laner to lead the group is what most poeple would like/need in order to try laning. I can see why such a company would be popular, i know i probably wouldnt have got into laning if a mate hadnt been doing it for years & showed me the pitfalls etc. plus the fact on an organised trip you get an ETA to return that shouldnt be far off correct, anyone with kids/familes would find that atrractive i bet. im not bothered as the most responsabilty ive ever had is a dog who always went with me. Im sure ive heard of a company that does a similar thing in the lake district, got a feeling it starts with 'k' & runs G4 edition LRs. so its certianly not a one off.

Glad you enjoyed your day Nathan, its always nice to hear of new converts when goverment seems to be trying to kill our hobby.

I think i've got into the hobby a bit late really as new legislation comes in but im sure that with some guidance i will enjoy going where its still legal to do so.

Heres some pics of my first Landy ive just bought
