  1. How many miles should a petrol 110 2500cc engine survive without the need for a major rebuild (assuming it is properly serviced)?
  2. art of a century can enable. So even Defender Pick-ups never had sliding windows from the factory? Perhaps means that the grey pickup had rotted out doors which were replaced with Series 3 doors?
  3. ex Singapore army... Pretty sure the doors are original. Must have been stipulated for that market.
  4. I am looking at both these vehicles and interestingly the pick up is a 1996 and has recessed series 3 type door latches and sliding windows possibly had series 3 doors fitted?). The white ex military car is 1986 and has recessed push buttons door handles and wind up windows...So, not correct that military vehicles had sliders through to the 90s.
  5. Are the hinges in the right place? In other words can you simply take a series door and put it on a 110/defender? I ask because I would want to go for the completely stripped down look in the summer without the top part of the doors on. I can fairly easily get hold of Series doors where I am living.

  7. I am shopping for a Defender and see some single cab models have winding windows and others have Series style sliding windows. Why is this? Was it a choice in early Defenders and or Defenders with cabs?
  8. why is LHD or RHD a factor in the decision?
  9. Would you recommend reconditioning a knackered 2.25 diesel engine on a series 3 or replacing with something like a 2litre TDI from a defender? If the latter, is it seriously doable without massive alteration?
  10. Arjan, you make it sound like a really major undertaking! Many of those things sound 'nice to have'? For example the car I am looking at doesnt have door locks so changing is not relevant! Heater controls and wiper controls can be on the wrong side; it is not important to have them in front of the driver.just inconvenient! Wipers being orientated the wrong way should not be noticed at our annual inspect here and the car will very rarely be used in the wet. Front axle is a big deal though. I Need to look at what this entails. Are you saying it the axle needs changing or just alteration? What about the clutch and brake hydraulics needs changing? This is due to distance to the pedals?
  11. Thanks David. Does the seal likely need replacing urgently? What will happen over time? This pic is the front left which seems more or less ok?
  12. I see this is done a fair bit where I am living (all ex army series 3 are LHD but we drive on the left). Is there anything in particular to look out for when converting series 3; anything I should check if looking at a previously converted vehicle or if considering getting one converted myself?
  13. The front wheel joints on a Series 3 I am considering buying look a bit too oily to me. Is this normal and if not, is it something hard to sort out?
  14. Can the windscreen be laid flat on a Series 3 FFR landrover? I do not recall seeing it done and wondered if the mods to make it FFR prevents this lowering.
  15. I am keen to get a child seat for the centre of a Series 3 FFR that I am planning to buy. It has been suggested that I get the batteries moved to the Jerry can cubicle on the side of the truck, but I prefer not to mess with them. The battery box is pretty high, but for a child I reckon it could work. Has anyone tried this?
