So I got to the bottom of the problem . when driving pressing the accelerator made the temp gauge drop of to cold, I also noticed when operating the hand brake the temp gauge would fluctuate . The engine would randomly cut out and immediately back in again. I would often have bad starting Eg Constant cranking and not firing. The problem turned out to be the ecu was not getting a good earth. to resolve the problem I have fitted a new earth wire directly from the ecu body mounting bolt back to the chassis ( not the body ) .

Is there any more info on this fault ? My td5 is now experiencing the same problems . It seems like an earthing fault but not sure where to start looking i’ve checked and cleaned up battery terminal earth chassis and engine Earth. I have also just had my ECU rebuilt for another problem so it can’t be that.
