  1. Its not RDX, if you check out KBX's ad in the back of lro, they are NAS style rear lamps, all are circular, not led and they have three circular lamps in a horizontal row where the fog and reverse lamps would fit, they have lamp guards fitted, they look the nuts! When i am home tomorrow i will upload the pic from the mag. They look the nuts! if they arnt rediculously priced like the KBX grilles then i reckon a lot of people will be after them!

Thanks for your advice on Bolt on Bits, they dont look like a company i would like to deal with,

    Ash

  2. Thanks for the replies chaps.

They do like similar to my 235/85 16 generals but those look to be wider, like not quite a 265, maybe a 255 or a 245 but with a similar height to the 235's.

Anyone know if safety devices still sell that rack? Or any reason why no one in england fits NAS forward facing rear bench seats, is there some law that applies to them? If Exmoor would do a kit id definately be having them!

  3. well when mine last did this it made a horrific noise and that was at 20-30mph, clutch down and in gear still. if u do ever put it into hi from low or vice versa, keep pressing the lever hard for a couple of seconds after pulling away and it should never pop out. Ive had both my landies do it. both from recently doing a hi to lo/ lo to hi selection change. There are no syncro's in the t-box. I heard through the grapevine somewheres that g-wagons do though? would be lovely to have if towing something heavy! Then u could use low range to get up to 30 and then swap ratios on the fly!

  4. aragorn is correct. once the bed in process is complete it is a lot harder to "warp" discs. I have used britpart discs and ferodo pads before with no problems but i bed them in by getting them hot but avoiding holding the brakes on when they are hot at stationary. The pad will partially "stick" to the disc. Equally though, you could be having serious bad luck and could have got two inferior britpart sets of discs. Maybe try genuine discs this time. There should be no need to replace the pads aswell, however land rover do spec there pad friction material to their disc, as most manufacturers will recommend, fit genuine with genuine, but i see no reason as to not keep using your britpart pads on the genuine discs.

Another thing that has popped into my head actually, i have seen a set of brand new discs warp because the stickers were not removed from the surface of the inner hub facing surface of the disc, so therefore heat would not be evenly distributed to the hub and the paper sticker had actually blackened from being burnt. Do britpart discs come with stickers on? off hand i cant remember, but these MUST be removed

    Hope this helps

  5. One thing i noticed about the "man for land rovers" ( the thatched garage) is that all their vehicles seem to be a bit on the high side for pricing. He buys his vehicles from the same places u could well be looking at, i.e autotrader and auctions. He gets them cheap because he goes straight to the seller early with cash in his hand. Dont get me wrong though, he does pick some nice vehicles but u could save a good deal of money by searching for them yourself. I managed to get a 52 plate 90 station wagon in epsom green, in immaculate condition, fsh and waxoyled from new with 56k for £10k on the dot, i know if i bought it through the thatched garage or similar i would be paying at least £13k for the same thing. He is worth paying a visit though, and get haggling! Otherwise i highly recommend Nene Overland, they always find the best vehicles, they may be pricey but they will be the best kept landys that reasonable money can buy, and no i dont work for them! Hope you find a nice truck! Be patient and dont take second best!

  6. i agree with aragorn. We have the same problem at Merc with our AMG vehicles. Customers go stomping down the road with new brakes get them so hot that after about 2 or 3 thousand miles the customer comes back with horrible brake judder and steering vibrations, fortunately merc pay for us to replace them under warranty. We bed in brakes like reb78 mentioned. What i have noticed at the smaller garages is that they tend not to road test vehicles frequently or for long enough periods. I choose to take a longer test route after brake pad and disc replacement. I know land rover do coat their discs with grease to prevent them from rusting during storage and transport, merc just use a spray primer. I suggest trying aragorns bedding in technique before returning to your garage. Parts like brake discs, even at non genuine factories, will go under stringent quality control.

You say that they failed very quickly, how quick is quick?

  7. have a search on the forums before you try any diy job, 300tdis have aluminium pistons that dont like getting too hot, so trying to tune the nuts off your tdi will bring the exhaust gas temperatures up very quickly which could lead so some fairly disastrous engine damage. I recommend fitting a larger intercooler to keep the temperatures down and if your really worried you can fit a dash mounted exhaust temp guage to keep an eye on it. i gave my old disco a mild tune to by turning the rubber diaphragm/conical pin around by a 1/3 of a turn. A friend of mine went mad and ended up fiddling with everything only to find that his truck was doing 20mpg when originally it would be doing nearer 30. remember every setting you have adjusted so you can return it back if it all goes tits!

  8. yeah i too enjoyed the ashcroft stand, a very professional display of drivetrain, i particularly liked the difflock setups. The stand got quite a lot of interest from a couple of mates who dont have land rovers or any clue about the mechanicals of cars.

Overall i thought billing was excellent, went with a party of ten and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves even though the weather was carp on friday and sunday. Definately going to go again although i think the showers could definately do with some improvement. other than that everything else was top notch, my first landy show and i was overwhelmed as to how good it was. Oh and i got my disco rather filthy!
