How much should I have sticking out ? Couple of mm each side ?
-
The weld in bung would mean moving the seat belt reel so it’s more inline and the belt runs straight up to the mint but that’s ok.
Need a weld in bung that fits 1.5 inch cage. Which I imagine is around 40mm long?
-
I want to put my truck cab to soft top and I need some seat belt mounts. I have a rear hoop and that blocks many of the off the shelf options.
So looking to make some clamps for the vertical part of the 1.5 inch cage with a part that extends for award for seat belt mount.suggestion was 8mm plate with a good helping of high tensile bolts in a saddle clamp arrangement.
What does it take to safely bend 8mm steel plate into a saddle bracket ?
-
how about something like this and mount to the cage ?
-
Not wanting to side line but how did you mount the air filter ? I tried to find a spot to do the same but never found an angle that worked.
-
So it is almost directly in lane with the cage a clamp extending forward but not too much I bash my head in it would do the job. If I CAD this is there an engineering firm that could make me two ?
yes it’s a metric only ruler for my 1.5 inch diameter roll cage. Looks like I would want to come forwards about 20cm to the mount position. May a bit less to move it back a touch.

Isn’t there another wire coming of the dizzy for something ? My connector on there perished and I lost power because of it but it was a while ago.

That’s great that looks like it could fit with the cage. Does it allow for the seats to go back a touch more ? One of the reasons for soft top is to get a bit more seat room vs the truck cab.

Thanks that’s a good link. In terms of an I looking to change or retain the cage probably goes to the heart of where I am Land Rover wise. I would like to keep some cage as play days are an option but I am looking at the Land Rover and thinking where do I want to go from here. What do I enjoy doing with it. The truck cab I’m finding a bit restrictive for leg room and soft top is more fun. I am good with putting a bracket on but would want to be reassured that’s safe enough.
I have had the bikini top on with this cage but had harnesses at the time so wasn’t an issue for seat belts. Changed the seats now so needs to be seat belts. -
As summer is here looking to put the bikini soft top back on however I need to find a home for the seat belt mounts. I have a rear hoop roll cage and I think that will be in the way of the cross bar the exmoor trim seat belt bar has. Any other suggests ? I did see mention of a wolf hoop that has the seat belt mounts included but I can’t find anything.

Also had to use a trolly jack under the spanner to get the drain plug turning.

Well no one said STOP so assume I’m good enough. Oil is in. Had to pop to get this from halfords to get the old filter off.
Also got the Haynes manual out to show my son how those work. 🙂
cut up a plastic bottle so the sump plug didn’t fall in the pan and guide the oil into the catch pan. Worked pretty well.

My sump plug seems to be quite set on staying put so I was wondering about getting an oil extractor and avoid the issue. People had success with those and the rover V8 dipstick tube ?
-
It’s 6 litres for the 4.2 rover v8 right ? What’s recommended brand these days please ? Maybe I’ll dig out the oil pan and remind myself why I get the garage to do this 🙂
-
Well that’s the question if it’s low miles and the oil is at the end of its shelf life but still within it as it sat in the garage can I get a couple of hundred miles with minimal engine wear change.
-
I think know the answer but Land River just coming back from lock down, oil looks mint but I know it degrades. It’s done 50 miles on that oil in the last 4 years but I guess I need to change anyway ? Can’t get few hundred miles out of it ?
-
Okay thanks not Toyo then. So BFGs then? I won’t use them that much but the couple of times I do probably would appreciate not getting stuck.
-
also maybe check I have more than inch clearance on my garage.......
-
So no real bad choices but for low mileage casual off roading on a 90 with Mach 5 and slight lift
255/85R16 Toyo mud terrain's is a good way to go.

I think o2 sensors come with a covering that burns off on first use ? I have an 8 year old unused sensor is that likely to still be good or is it new sensor time and if so will any store do for that ?
I know I could go narrow band but I’m going wideband.
I have Lc-1 in currently but I could swap to Lc-2 but doesn’t seem much difference.

Looking at the same thing for the same reason, what's a good size to go for on R16 with a slight lift ? I think I went a bit wide last time.
