  1. Hi, I've just fitted a set of Freestyle alloys to a mate's 98 300tdi CSW to replace the steels that were on it. The new alloys are from a Discovery and I'm not sure if they are rated for a 110? I've looked around but cannot find a definate answer... I'm concerned.... 'If' they are Ok to fit.. How do we get the speedo to read correctly as the tyres are 235/70x16 ? From the distant past when I had my 90 I remember that a sprocket type part that could be fitted to the gearbox.. Any help appreciatted. Thanks Gavin
  2. Hi, I needed new brackets for my Brownchurch 3/4 roof rack when I bought my 110. Quick call to them got me 6 new gutter brackets for about £30. They are the same as these - http://www.brownchurch.co.uk/images/DISCO-98.jpg (little difficult to see but best picture I could come up with. cheers Gavin
  3. Cheers. Trying to stay away from dealers at the moment purely on cost - I'm off to see a private 2003 model tomorrow which looks very respectacable. Gavin
  4. All, I've been giving some serious thought about selling 'Bert' my 300tdi 110 CSW. I'm looking at a late TD5 version with the main aim of chipping it/bigger intercooler and other performance mods. I've heard that its best to go for a post 2002 model as the ECU is different ( better?) for carrying out mods on - is this true? cheers Gavin
  5. Western, Yes, terminal locations noted before and checked after - all OK. Your spot on with the relay though Unplugged it and took off the red cover to reveal about an inch of water in it Quite how it got in there is a mystery as the area around it is bone dry. The rain must of found it's way in there whilst driving down to Devon at motorway speeds. I've dried it all out with Mrs Spooners hairdryer and reassembled it - all working 100% now. Thanks to you and Errol209 this afternoon for your help. Paypal donation duly made in recognition of this sites status of the best one around for advice and general usefullness ...now where that returns process for Paddocks..... cheers Gavin
  6. Errol209, "Now we need someone with a circuit diagram for your car ..." lol I've pulled the blue cable from the parking switch off (front the body of the motor) and the wipers duly stop. 'Electircary' and me are not the best so I'm not sure how to solve this now. I've just removed dashboard housing above the steering wheel and all seems in place and connected. No loose wires. I've traced the cable from the stalk into the loom and as far as I can see this looks Ok to. As the fault just happened whilst driving I don't understand how the wires can be the wrong way around as nothing was touched until I fitted the new parking switch. confused now.. cheers Gavin
  7. Thanks Errol209 - much appreciated. So no relay then? I've just put all the original parts back on and to my relief (!) same issue. Intermittent setting just sweeps the wipers across the screen as per normal setting. cheers Gavin
  8. Hi All, In need of some expert advice because I'm scratching my head here trying to workout whats wrong. On the way down to Devon last week the front wipers on my 110 1998 decided they wouldn't switch off. They go the normal and 'fast' speeds but won't go intermittent and won't stop - I have to pull the fuse to get them to stop. Luckily I'd passed Devon 4x4 on the way down so after a couple of calls went up there to collect a new 'parking sensor' switch that attaches to the side of the wiper motor. Unfortunatley this didn't fix the problem. So, I thought maybe it's the the actual stalk on the steering binnacle ... Devon4x4 had one in stock so I changed that whilst there - same issue. Rang Paddocks and ordered a new wiper motor which I have just fitted and same problem. Getting expensive now - nearly £100 so far. Wiring looks fine - is there a relay on a 1998 110 ? I don't think there is but if someone knows different and can point me to it I'd be very happy. Otherwise does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the problem? This thread http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopi...9&hl=520160 dealt with my previous wiper issues... cheers Gavin
  9. Andy, Spot on with the PAS. Managed to check in the fading light this evening and I've found a leak from just under the PAS reservior. Looks like the ends of ones of hoses has split as it's coming down from right underneath where the hose joins the reservior. Anyone know the part numbers for these two hoses? Thanks again everyone - appreciatted Cheers Gavin
  10. Thanks Steve. I was thinking of standard LR items - just a bit wary of the price of Genuine Parts. I read somewhere that you can put 'beefy' genuine springs on the back and they give a better ride - but can't trace the article at the moment. I think they are standard fit on some SV 110's. cheers Gavin
  11. Hi all, I want to replace my existing shocks/springs & bushes on my 110 soon. I do 80% on road with a little green laning. I don't want to lift it. I've been looking at the Brit part kit from Paddocks which replaces the whole lot but I'm concerned about the quality. Also, I want to replace the bushes, all over, so was looking at a Polybush/Deflex kit. What would the forum advice as replacement? Does anyone have any views on which bush kit to go for? Cheers, Gavin
  12. Thanks for the replies. When I pull away I can't hear it or feel any untoward coming up from anyway. Perhaps as you say Western it is just low revs resonance. Only done 92k and oil change every 6months/6000miles - wouldn't expect cam/big end bearings at mileage would I TimR? I'll have a good look at the weekend when I have some light. cheers
  13. Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with a noise/rumble thats just started (Monday) on my 1998 300tdi 110 CSW when stationary. When I start 'Bert' up, and he is ticking over (feet off all pedals), I'm getting a kind of 'rumble'/'scraping' noise from the around engine/gearbox area. Depressing the clutch/pressing the brake pedal has no effect of the noise - it's still there. He drives fine and the clutch engages as it should and the brakes work just fine. I did think it could be a propshaft/UJ put as they don't move until he does I kind of discounted that... I've never heard it before and would welcome any opinions....
  14. Hi Nic, Yes - nothing comes 2nd to the families safety. The 90 is to replace my wifes Golf. Just found their website with a lot of details on there. Looks like a 4 week wait for the seat though - must be made to order considering the trim options available. Test drive this morning ...we will see...
  15. Hi, We're looking at a 95 300tdi 90 CSW tomorrow with a view to it replacing our Euro box. As we have two children under 4, I want to swap out two of the fold down seats in the back with a forward facing locking seat to accomodate the youngest child seat - the older one will sit in the front in his own car seat as he does in my 110. Has anyone any experience of Exmoor's load space forward locking seats ? Looking at their web page it does NOT look like they include the seat belt and they are £460 + Vat !! plus extra for the headrest and the armrest!! Will be getting near £600 by the time it's all ordered and that's serious money in my book. Is Exmoor kit any good? I rang them about two years ago regarding child seats and I the experience was'nt pleasant. Have they got any better? cheers
  16. Cheers all - I take a look one evening this week - how nice it is to have a bit of daylight when I get in from work :-) So, new lock cylinder it maybe....
  17. All, My 110 Rear door lock is playing up... When I shut the door and lock it with the key, it locks as it should. After a quick drive I try the rear door handle and it lifts up and the door opens I've tried adjusting the catch on the side of the frame but not sure which way I should be moving it/adjusting it. Has anyone had a similiar problem? The key turns fine in the lock...I think the issue is with the catch....
  18. Andy, When I lived in Luton I used 'AutoLand' in Houghton Regis. Always had good service from them. Think the guys names there were Andy & Bill - http://www.4x4service.co.uk/ cheers Gavin
  19. ..and I'm in Datchworth (good to find someone local to me Yakko ) if I can be of help tomorrow. I've some straps etc. What lane was is it on? cheers Gavin
  20. Ok, so much to my neighbours amusement I spent 1.5 half hours fitting my new (to me) side bars to the 110 in the snow today. All went well once I'd found some suitable bolts for the brackets to the sill sides. One problem I have which I need advice on is the following. One of the bolts that holds one of the 'legs' of the side step bracket onto the chassis rail has lost it's 'captive' nut. By this I mean that the bit inside the chassis rail that the bolt threads into has come away from the rail and fallen inside never to be seen again. What's the best solution?? I suppose I could drill right through to the otherside of the rail and use a long bolt to hold the bracket to the rail... I'm not sure if the 'captive' nuts was welded inside the chassis during fabrication or can I use a 'spreader' bolt that will open up inside the rail once I insert it and start to do up the bolt... Hopefully someone can help me out here cheers Gavin
  21. Tim...brilliant, thanks for the link. Never knew about this LR site and duly bookmarked. cheers Gavin
  22. Popped up to Finmere yesterday for the 'Clearout'.... not far from me so decided to see what it was like. Obvously not a busy as Sodbury but came away with a nice set of 07 XS side bars so the family can get in and out more easily. Does anyone have a link to the instructions document ? My old side steps are off but just wanted to confirm how I think they go on - using the same holes I guess in the chassis and sill??
  23. And me please. Thanks for all your comments - lot's to consider. As I don't have a bulkhead in my 110 I think it'll go either under the 2nd row seats with the sub in the back...
  24. Hi, Has anyone wired in a amp and Sub into a 110? I'm at the 'thinking of doing it' stage at the moment and wondering where to put the amp. First thoughts are to take out one of the rear individual fold up seats and bolt the amp the the side of the wheel arch (inside!) and place the Sub next to it on the floor... Thoughts appreciatted. cheers Gavin
  25. Cheers - that explains why there was about a syringe full in there then
