    Misfire

Hi everyone, My 2003 TD5 diesel auto was recently given a 72k service by a non-LR specialist. Not long after - approximately 60 miles or so - the engine developed a misfire. It was not immediately apparent at the time. The car starts on the turn of the key and runs fine, but after around 2-3 miles the misfire starts. It feels as though it is not firing on one of the cylinders and consequently at certain speeds 55/60 MPH causes a tremendous vibration throught the car. If it is left for acouple of hours, the cycle starts again i.e runs fine for 2-3 miles, then continously misfires. My wife took the vehicle back to the garage, typically it was running ok at the time- but a new fuel filter was fitted. This did not cure the problem and so it went back again. The mechanic plugged it in to his diagnostic machine and no fault codes were present. He doesn't know. To this end, he has booked the car in to a diesel specialists this week for a diagnostic check on their systems. After reserching this forum, I have checked the wiring harness to the ECU and this is dry and clear of any oil residue. I am wondering, is the misfire, the car actually going in to limp mode for someother reason ? Are there any issues with non OE fuel filters ? Any help would be greatly appreciated Regards RDW
  2. An Update.. Land Rover have replied to my request for a refund of my costs so far - it was a recall issue after all. They are sorry I have been inconvienienced, but the replaced fuel line is quality assurred and advise me to contact the garage who undertook the recall work. The fuel pump has not burnt out as a result of the leak - It's just an amazing coincidence. The passenger door has started working... and today, white van man took the o/s wing mirror off ! RDW
  3. Done ! Many thanks !! - plenty of WD40 and not a little swearing has done the job. Thank you again RDW
  4. Hello everyone, Can anybody help me with this one - am I doing something really silly ? I have just got into my S2 Td5 03 Discovery and the key will not turn. Not had a problem with this before, but the key won't budge and the steering lock will, obviously not release. Searching the site, I see a few of you have replaced ignition barrels - is this the remedy - or am I doing / not doing something really daft! The keys are ok - not bent or anything like that and the central locking is functioning correctly. Help ! RDW
  5. Turns out I was completely wrong ! It was fuel. A fuel line had split. This was originally a recall issue and my fuel line was replaced on the recall by Barretts in Canterbury. The replacement has now split, but it gets worse. The fuel pump was working overtime spraying diesel all over my driveway to such an extent that it burnt out. The upshot is this, 1. Fuel lines £61.00 2. Pump £200 3. Rear windscreen wiper £6 4. Labour £135 Of course Barretts say its a Land Rover problem, not theirs, we shall see.. RDW
  6. Thank you - from what you have shown me, I think it is highly likely to be an ACE coupling gone awry ! I will check it out and let you know. Thanks again RDW
  7. Hi there ! I have a 2003 TD5 Auto. Owned it for a month and Im a suprised at how much I am spending on it ! At present I have a problems with :- 1. Drivers' seat doesn't heat 2. Drivers' mirror doesn't automatically adjust 3. Passenger door won't open with the fob. It will lock. 4. However, what's causing me most concern at the minute is a leak, quite substantial, has started today at the rear. It is comming from above the fuel tank on the nearside. When I turn the engine on, it floods out and slows to a drip when the engine is off. It's not fuel. It's not brake fluid. I am thinking it may be suspension hydraulics I am sure I have isolated the leak to the point above the tank. Surely there would not be a joint there ? Has anybody experienced similar problems ? That said, can somebody tell me where the suspension, hydraulic fluid reservoir is ? It may give a clue (by the lack of fluid) - I am seriously starting to wonder about Discovery ownership ! Thak you, in advance for any assistance you can give. RDW
