  1. sorry to sound negative mate but i think in doing that i would end up with something looking very wierd , i cannot see why you would want to go to all the trouble and hassle of making the doors longer , to end up with something that looks strange , and still have to make other panels to fit as well . to me thats making even more work .
  2. yep already watched that john, thanks . but to be honest its one of those programs where they only just touch onto a subject , like the fact they are useing a rear tub that has already been shortened at one end . then next time you look its finished . same applies to fitting the rear crossmember it doesn,t show you that the rear off the chasis has already been trimmed down on the bottom ready to accept the new one. its one of those TV programms where you watch it and think why don,t they show more of the project that the programms about and less of the plopplops about suzukis off roading !! or i do anyway .!! its real life step by step pictures that i would idealy like to see if anyone has any. 3. hi, i,m toying with the idea of building a 100" hybrid using either a RRC or disco chasis , i already have both and a 90 to use as a don ner for the front panels and bulkhead. i also have spare tub and roof from a 90. i understand all the chasis welding side of things and am a welder/fabricator so don,t need any advise reguarding chasis work. what i would like advice with is how others have made the body work , usaual way i know is cut down 110 body . has anyone got pictures how they did theirs ?? or can anyone put me onto a link on the site showing how this can be done . i did once do a similar thing when i shortened my series 3 109 down to 88, ( loads of welding/ fabbing work to make the chasis sections match back up when they have been cut so best avoided in future) and shortened the body to suit but with this i removed the outer skins from the tub completely made up a new floor and wheel boxes from ally sheet on ally angle frame and then pop riveted the shortened outer skins onto this then replaced the galv cappings. as i have got two 90 tubs and roof sections (one badly damaged so wouldn,t be able to use on a 90 as it is) it had crossed my mind about using both of these and strectching one useing sections from the second one , i think i should be able to do this with the sides, but has anyone stretched a roof in this way before ??? agian pictures would be good.it seems a same to buy 110 body work to cut down to fit when i have these already and could maybe stretch to fit, besides that i,m a yorkshire man and a tight git !!! any advice and help appreciated, cheers Turbomangler.
  4. hi all, a while back i bought a secondhand bush kit from ebay i,m guessing its made by polybush as they are orange in colour but could be another make . they where already fitted to the front hockey sticks and rear trailing arms. i fitted the front kit ages go while i was fitting a 2" lift kit but never fitted the rear trailing arms at the time. last week i had to replace my pro-comp rear shocks so decided to fit the rear trailing arms as well. the triangular steel chassis mounting plates for poly rear bushes where missing when i got the kit but i thought it wouldn,t be a problem as i would be able to use the plates from the original rubber bushes when i swapped them when i removed the old trailing arms i realised the standard type rubber bushes are a one piece item moulded around the plates i need. i thought about cutting the rubbers to salvage the metal plates but then decided not to as if they turned out to be different to the poly bush plates i wouldn,t be able to use the disco , and needed it for work next day. so my question is can the plates be bought separetly as spares ?? if so where from and how much ?? does anyone have a spare pair that i can purchase from them ?? or does anyone know if my idea of salvageing the plates from old standard bushes would work ?? are the plates the same as polybushe ones ?? also if anyone has a set of poly bushes that haven,t been fitted yet could i have the diameter of the bushe where it fits into the plate , then i can measure my bushe diameter so i would know if they are polybushe (or a different make )for if i do have to buy spares from a dealer . anyone any ideas/ comments ??? cheers steve.
  5. have bit the bullet now and forked out for a pair of new shockers , bought some britpart supergaz +2" shocks from paddock spares . when i swapped them the leak on the old shockers turned out to be dirty water !! that had been trapped inside the rubber gater, and the old shocks where still damping as they should be . expensive oversight on my part !! never mind should be able to sell em on ebay . steve.
  6. think u must mean the tailgate door, sorry i should have put rear passenger doors on a 5 door disco . don,t know of YRM , who are they and where are they ?? cheers steve.
  7. hi does anybody know if repair sections are available for the rear door openings on a series 1 disco ??? mine have rotted away in the corner where the rear post meets the rear wheel arch , as they all seem to do !!! before i go to the trouble of making up new sections i wondered if they are made as repair sections and where from ?? anyone got any ideas ?? steve.
  8. totally agree with u on the last point , even tho i prefer 200,s !!! steve.
  9. if the kent engine in fords is what i know as the crossflow engine , it was and still is a very good engine . still being tuned and raced today with good results !! back to the 200 vs 300 thing , not really anything to do with the engine but i,m useing a 300 radiator on my 200Tdi disco , simply cos it was 50 quid brand new when i needed one just had to play about with an old motorbike header pipe to make the pipework fit, does this make mine a 250 TDI ???? lol.
  10. just read this post and found it slightly amusing that refinement and quietness are being used to describe a land rover !!! come on lets face facts , if u want refinment and quietness why are we driving land rovers ??? anyway back to the point, my own opinion entirely before anyone jumps down my neck! 200 tdi everytime! f*****g great engine . had one strip a couple of teeth off the cambelt , no cracked head problems just bent push rods which where hammered straight and reused (may sound drastic and a bodge but it works ! and needed it back on the road when parts suppliers where closed). the same cannot be said for the 300TDI altho this is only my opinion , of all the landrover owners i know , i haven,t heard any of them say that the 300 is a better engine . the idea of fitting the electronic,s to the fuel pump instead of a normal throtle cable was bad move . at least when the alarm has problems you could get the motor running with a bit of wiring bypassed , not with the electronics on the fuel pump !! was a bit surprised when i read the 200TDI block is the same as the TD block ???? is this true i thought it was different . Steve.
  11. hi, i,m looking for a pair of standard type rear shocks that are 2 inch longer than discovery series 1 shockers, to replace a damaged procomp ES9000 . anyone know what shockers may do the job ?? i was wandering if standard 110 defender shockers are any longer than disco shockers ?? anyone any ideas??? cheers steve.
  12. hi , i have a 2 inch lift kit fitted to my 200tdi disco with pro-comp es9000 shocks . the nearside shocker has worn out the rubber bushes but also seems to be leaking so i need a new one or a pair of replacements . i,m not really wanting to go for the same ones again as to me they seem to be very poor quality, they have been on about 2 years and have not done any offroading !! my brother also had to replace the ones on his disco after a short time ( although his was offroaded often) what i would like to know is if any standard land rover rear shockers are longer than the disco ones ??? that way i can buy standard off the shelf parts that would fit the disco and still work with the 2 inch longer springs. i was wandering if 110 rear shockers are longer than the disco ones and would do what i want , anyone know if this is the case or know anything else that would help me out ??? cost is also a reason to want standard type shockers as 1 ES9000 is the same price as a pair of standard shockers . steve.
  13. thanks for that OLD HAND, very intresting. as far as i know he only turned the diaphragm (so thats how u spell it then !) but i will find out if he adjusted anything else . so assuming thats all that was moved i cannot do any harm by turning the diaphragm either direction , it would either get worse or better and adjust the other direction to correct if it got worse . i adjusted the quarter turn yesterday at my brothers house and only drove half a mile or so to my house. the one thing i did notice is that it seems a bit slugish from standing , but at that time i didn,t realise that would be the result of this adjustmnet ( i thought it was for maximum fueling). so i guess its back where it should be , i will use it like this for this week and see how it goes , if it still smokes and go from there . thanks again . turbomangler.
  14. hi anyone know anything about fuel pumps ?? i swapped the engine in my 200 disco from a V8i to a 200tdi about 18 months ago , i,m now travelling around 22 miles each way to work and notice it seems to use a lot of fuel and black smokes alot. the engine i fitted came out of my brothers disco and he has since told me he had tweaked the fuel pump.(someone told him it would give more power !) he said he removed the 4 screws that hold the cover over the diathragam and turned the diathragam a quarter of a turn . but cannot remember which way he turned it . i have removed the cover and turned it back quarter of a turn but don,t know if this is correct . i,m presuming the reason to tweak it like this would be to increase the spring pressure so i guess turning clockwise , hense i turned it back anti clockwise to back to what i guess would be standard position. when i was doing this i couldn,t see the point of it as turning it didn,t seem to adjust any thing, is this the case ?? it looked to me like there is a screw in the top cover which is covered at the top so cannot be moved . i would have thought that this screw would be the way of tweaking the pump? . can anyone tell me was it a pointless exercise turning the diathragam? if not will i have made things worse by turning it the way i have ?? any advice on fuel pump issuses would be greatfull. Turbomangler.
  15. cheers for that andy b, u learn something every day . i,ve froze my nuts off all winter travelling 23 miles each way to work and my brother has 3 RRC parked up for breaking !! best get mi snap -ons up to his house !! thanks again for info andy! steve.
  16. you obviously haven,t looked for one then , last one i looked at on ebay sold for over 60 quid ! its a well known fact (from what i,ve seen on this forum in the past ) they get water down the vents when off roading then seize up n pack in . i would say they are quite sought after . does anyone else how any ideas ??
  17. hi , been a while since i was last on here but was looking for help with my heater motor . does anyone know if the heater motor in the 200 series disco is fitted to any other vehicle land rover or non landrover ??? the reason being mine must have knackered bearings in it which grumbled really bad on 3rd speed and has gradually got worse untill it is now as bad on 1st speed, its now at the stage where its unusable ! i was wondering if its possible to replace the bearings in the original motor ??? i don,t mind pulling the dash out which i have done on another disco , but don,t want to go to this trouble then find out its not possible to replace the bearings ! my next thought was ,does anyone know if the same heater motor is fitted to any other vehicle ??? i,m guessing its made by bosch or some other big company so surely it must be common to other fitments even if it means swapping the fans from one motor to another . i know paddock spares are selling new motors for £100 but this is way out of my budget and second hand ones are very scarse now ,so has any one looked into this before or can tell me if this motor fits anything else?? or has anyone found another different type of motor thats readilly available from a breakers yard that they have managed to fit into the disco heater box ?? look forward to hearing any thoughts on bearing replacement or motor swaps or any other tips on this subject . or if anyone has a replacement heater fan in the barnsley, south yorkshire area please get in touch. i know we are probably past the worst of the bad weather but i want to be able to use the blower to clear the windscreen again !! steve.
  18. hi i will look at trying to get the old unit freed off i think , thanks fot the info . i had a quick look at opening up one of the spare units the other day but they must be glued together but will have another go , theres nothing to loose i have about 8 of them all together. u are incorrect tho when u say land rovers ones are all 4 wires . all the ones i have removed 4 and 5 wires are all genuine land rover ones as well as the 2 wire ones from the other doors. i have removed 2 that have been after market ones but they are totally different from the genuine ones . steve.
  19. hi hope someone can help me out . i have a K reg 200 series V8 auto ( now with 200TDI manual box). up until recently the alarm and central locking have worked fine , but about a week ago i noticed the drivers door is not locking with the fob . all the other doors will lock and the alarm led flashes on the dash , if i open the drivers door the alarm goes off so everything seems to be working ok (touch wood ) apart from the drivers door not locking. i removed the door trim and watched the actuactor as i pressed the alarm fob and the rod coming out of the actuator was only moving a few mill so was not enough to lock the door. i guessed this was faulty so i removed one from a spare (300series) door and removed mine but the plug on the wiring was different to mine . both have 5 wires but are different colours and plugs . i removed one from another door this had 2 wires . and another drivers door this had 4 wires and a different plug again. is mine different because it was originaly a V8 and all the wiring is different ,or have they just changed over the years ? how many of the 4/5 wires are used and does any one know the colour codeing for me to be able to cut my plug off the actuator and solder it to the other 5 wire one so it will plug into mt loom ??? any help and/or wiring diagrams apprechiated .. steve.
  20. just wondered out of intrest, where is the inertia switch for the C/L and what does it look like ?
  21. hi bogmonster, so are u using a steering pump for your winch? if so is it a standard land rover item or some other larger unit ? steve.
  22. hi , wondered if anyone out there has any idea,s / suggestions what i could use to rig up an engine driven hydraulic pump to my 200 disco engine. with the intention to fit an hydraulic winch,( still in the planing stages , just want to know if anybody has any thoughts on this ). i think i remember seeing somewhere that a power steering pump can be used , but i need to know what vehicle i should be looking for to get one from , as i can,t imagine a land rover one would have enough flow to power a winch .my idea was to mount it where the air con pump would be fitted and belt drive it , although i am not realy that keen on the belt drive idea . any one got any ideas ? has anyone driven a hydraulic pump another way? other than pto driven from the gearbox ,which is the obvious way but i haven,t got one of those and want to try and fit one the cheapest way i can . crank shaft driven maybe , like some plant and tracters have done in the past ? frabrication of brackets is no problem as is rigging up the hydraulic system, think i should be able to get hold of a small valve block to do what i want. i just need to hear from any one who knows of a suitable pump or has any ideas or even pictures that may help me out. i,m sure there are others out there that have already done this idea on the cheap ( parts from scrap yards and old plant machinery etc) look forward to any replies . cheers steve.
  23. yes this is the item . this may sound stupid ,but what does it do ? isn,t the head light dip worked straight from the stork switch ?
  24. hi , on 200tdi disco ,s ( not sure if this item is fitted to other models as well) under the dash on the drivers side is an electrical item of some kind . it is a black alluminium item about 50mm square and 25mm thick with cooling finns and an ally plate bolted to it which i guess to be an heat sink.it has an orange socket on the front with 5 terminals in it for the wiring plug and a number printed on it 37891A 2292 and made by lucas . as already said it is under the dash in the same area as the fuse box and the alarm controller. thats about the best i can describe it . but what is it / what does it do ??? does any body know ? i,m only wanting to find out what it is /does as i haven,t come across an item like this before , but have stripped the wireing from 2 disco,s and its now bugging me what it does !! hope some one can tell me . steve.
