When i go into gear im getting nothing but when i go into low or high difflock its ok and drives fine , anyone advise me on whats wrong please ?

Les that was more or less what the mechanic said to me

Mechanic looked at it last night , says it is the timing belt so some work ahead for me , the best of it is , i was due to travel/tour up the north of Scotland as from monday in it....bummer

Its a 200tdi , if it was the timing belt , is it a difficult job to do guys ?

Im driving on the motorway earlier today doing about 50mph all of a sudden everything cuts out on me , luckily i manage to get onto the hard shoulder,i turn the key again , nothing , i turn it again then it wants to go but wont , i call out the AA and the guy takes the rocker cover off and says theres no movement in there and it might be something to do with the crank , im totally lost , anyone any ideas please ?

Guys im trying to fit a radio into my defender 86 , the wiring is gobbledigook to me any basic diagrams i can look at ?

Guy it was the wires at the starter , they were lose , a quick tighten and first turn of the key and we were started , thanks for the info though guys , much appreciated..

Ok guys i put the jumplead on the starter motor body from battery , still nothing , so any ideas what to look for now ?
