  1. have just got car back on road after replacing conrods, everything ok apart from what i think seems to be a lack of boost from turbo, compared to my old 200 tdi.seems to fade on hills, and living in lakes can be frustrating.all things usual are done, apart from tweeking inj pump and checking turbo.i have had actuator rod off and seems free enough but unsure whether to adjust because a little bit of tension is already needed to refit, but not excessive, is there any way of testing without a test/boost gauge?.have also noticed when under load at about 3 3500 rpm in 2nd or 3rd power can momenterily die, until you lift off pedal slightly and it picks up again.is thi poss inj pump delivery rate setting?.ps i havent had this vehicle long and bought it slightly down on power, and price.but i dont think it is as quick as my old 200,
  2. NOT SURE ABOUT LAND ROVER BUT BL/AUSTIN ROVER HAD RUSSET BROWN IN EARLY EIGHTIES WHICH IN MY EXPERIANCE IS DARKER THAN ONE ON PHOTO.WAS A SIMILAR SHADE TO THE LATER CLOVE BROWN.I WOULD GUESS AT ROWAN,DEFINATELY NOT RUSSET. HOPE THIS HELPS
  3. yeh lad who i know has got hold of a compression tester but the adaptor nearest size is slightly different to the thread on the glow plug,a bit stuck at the mo
  4. having problems with a 94 300 tdi, lumpy when starting up from cold and wont rev, plumes out like unburnt diesel smoke.once engine is warmer it idles better but will not rev properly until all smoke has cleared, having to hold revs on for a while for this to do so.have had injectors checked ,timing belt replaced and accurately aligned, egr blanked off, tried another inj pump, cleaned intercooler, loosened off down pipe for exhaust blockage along with new fuel filter and lift pump and sedimenter done.even direct fuel feed from container to pump to rule out air in fuel.tappets are ok and not too tight, havent got a compression tester yet but wondering if turbo ok.waistgate seems to move ok but dont know if it is stuck shut ,or any thing on this area, dont think its anything internal in engine but would appreciate any feedback.proper doing head in
  5. hi ,thanks to replies about smoke problem with 300,thought was ok when starting but wasnt.someone suggested that it could be an injector problem,so,removed and have had them tested, guy testing them says that most of them are out of calibration, and can repair as necc, nozzles etc,.my question is,will 300 run with 200 inj,as i still have a 200 what runs fine, just needs welding, haynes manual states opening pressure same for both, but second stage is 20bar less on 200 inj,.dont want to swap and try without seeing if this is possible first, dont want to blow engine etc,,,.any one done this before?.
  6. hi just replaced headgasket in 300tdi everything ok apart from bluish smoke that sometimes comes out from exhaust, performance is good but little sluggish when first setting off, seems to me to have a slight misfire which when revved up stationary clears it self, any help would be greatfully appreciated,
  7. just done headgasket on 300 tdi disco, leaking oil with slight chuffing sound, replaced using gen headgasket and bolts also had head skimmed, got engine fired up and seems fine,no nasty noises, heater nice and warm and starts up and idles fine, only problem has slight misfire i think what clears itself, and sometimes followed by blueish smoke, what could this be?valve stem oil seals?injector?or turbo?.if oilseals can these be done with head on?compressed air into cylinder bores????and is there a removal tool for such a job.please help..ps couldnt be a breather pipe?egr still connected.
  8. thanks for that, think i will go with the elring
  9. hi ,new to this forum but info is great, have recently bought 300tdi disco on 94 m plate, chuffing noise from back of engine so pulled head off, true enough, black mark on head and soundproofing burnt on bulkhead, had head skimmed and unsure of gasket choice,3 hole genuine land rover fitted, engineer supplied a payen for 200/300 tdi 3 hole.when i queried with a lr main dealer if 200 and 300 gaskets were different they said yes, reason for asking is because i bought a head set for a 200tdi which i used to own but never fitted.part no err5263 3 hole elring,is this suitable for 300tdi? or is any of them a better quality because i have read that elring are better than genuine?.please can any one shine some light on this matter
