  1. Hi All

I hope you are all ok and well

I recently posted on the forum an bad experance with my breakdown company, the breakdown company dose not cover any repair that may fail.

So I would like any recomendations for a good breakdown cover company, I have searched the net but before I hand over my money your words of wisdom would be great

    Cheers

  2. Hi All

I have had nothing but bad luck with my Defender, 1986 2.5tb,

i have it repaired back in February and MOT, she had to have a part rebuild on the head, I had :-

    Blown Head Gasket

    Hot spots dropped

    Misfire on N04 Inject

I had other work carried out to pass MOT, however less then 500 miles after the all the repair work, New Head Gasket, New No4 Inject ore, Head skimmed and New Hot spots, as arrived from Sheffield to Lincoln i lost power and started to burn lots of black smoke coming from the exhaust, she stalled and was a bugger to start, when i got the landie home, off the back of a low loader, starting the landie was even harder to start, with white smoke coming from the exhaust then turning black, the road side breakdown service have diagnosed the problem as a cracked head letting in air!!!

To make things worse, the breakdown company charge me £236 to bring the landie home because they think the fault could be related to the repair, i have to prove to them that it is or isn't to get some of my money back, talk about robbing sods! whats the point in having breakdown cover!

I know this is a moan, but dose anyone think could it be related to the repair, if the head is cracked, dose this mean new engine?

I am a very dishearten landie owner on the edge of selling!!! and I was so looking forward to the Driffield Landie Show!

    Cheers

  3. Hi All

I hope every is well, just wanted to ask a silly question, what are the typical symptoms when a head gasket has gone?

my landie is has gone pretty noisy (2.5TD 1986) but not sure whats happened, i didn't loose any power at the time i notice the extra sound coming from my engine the only reason i mention the head gasket is oil, i appear to be burning more than usual

    ideas would be welcome

    Cheers

    Fantastic all of you!

    cheers

  6. Hi All

I have a duff battery!!! the first cold weather and duff!, i have taken it off and now charging it up, but as the weather gets colder will properly replace it

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a simple battery tester/alternator, i need to make sure my alternator is charging the battery properly, something that will give me an voltage out put reading when battery receiving a charge from and under load

    thank you

  7. flasher unit is located behind the metal plate of the fusebox below the dash & in front of gearlevers.

it may be a metal rectangular can type or a rectangulr blue translucent plastic unit.

    Thank you Gromit!!

Top job, replaced the flasher unit, and we are working, well sort of, the faulty unit had 4 prongs, but the spares place only had 3 prongs units, but we are working, i thinks it's because the faulty unit was for a trailer set up,

    Cheers

  12. Hi All

Well my landie has gone for good!

Not be done by the sod who nicked it I bought an other! A 1986 90, with 2.5td, good looking landie however not very well, on my way to the Driffield landie show she duely let her oil out all over the A614!

The oil feed pipe to the turbo had broken! A very nice Discovery driver towed me and my family the last 7 miles did I mention he was a very nice man?

Thinking, I am at the biggest landrover show in the north I will be able to get a new or second hand feed pipe... NO SUCH LUCK!

But yet again some very nice lads from the Nottingham and Doncaster landrover clubs helped me, I removed the old pipe cut it back a little and Darrol the man who can, re flanged the end and way hay we were working! but the drama does not finish there!!

Leaving the show driving home gently, just out side Doncaster, 2 flat tyres!

So to my question, I want to replace the broken oil feed pipe to the turbo, but need a part number the only one I can find at the moment is the 300tdi and thats not the 1 I need! It's a steel or copper pipe, can some one help a knackered landie man with a part number!?

    Cheers

  13. Hi John

It was nicked from Sheffield and the Reg is D109 RUX, if they intend to keep it they will need to repair the fuel problem on the Landie, as they will only be able to go 50mph and there was no fuel in her so they would have to a petrol station first!
