  1. Manual R380 and the switch is on the main gearbox to the rear of the diff lock lever.
  2. The switch is disconnected and from the state of the plastic around the connectors it is clearly stuffed. I suppose I could bridge across the contacts in the disconnected cable coupling to see if any warning light comes on. It looks as though I was wrong in my initial description of the function of the switch but the fact remains it is there and as I have already said Haynes describes it as a "low detect switch". But what low???
  3. The switch is located below and to the left of the reversing light switch. In the Haynes manual for '83-'07 diesel Defenders it is referred to as a "low detect switch". If you have a copy of this manual it is on page 7A.6. It is there on my vehicle and disconnected and it is definitely not the diff lock switch.
  4. I am looking for a part number for the low ratio engaged switch on my '99 V8 Defender 110 Station Wagon. I haven't got round to taking it out yet but I know it is definitely stuffed. Is the switch the same as the diff lock switch - PRC2911? I have checked various parts manuals and can find no reference to the switch. The last eight digits of the VIN areXA159828. Cheers, Del
  5. Ralph, I have checked your PM and sent a reply.
  6. As I don't currently have a problem with the fuel pump I think this is definitely the way I will go. It would definitely give me some peace of mind in the middle of nowhere in the Andes!
  7. Could you please explain what is meant by "PM". Thanks
  8. Hi Western, Thanks for your reply. To me the PRC7020 option seems to be the way to go as well. I would just like to get to the bottom of why the VIN throws up a different unit.
  9. I live in Bolivia and own a 1999 Defender V8 110 Station Wagon. The vehicle is fitted with SU carbs.I have been looking round for a spare fuel pump to have for peace of mind when heading off on long trips. I have been quoted prices in the region of £400 by both LR and after market suppliers in the UK based on the VIN number. The pump is currently nil stock and I have been offered supply on back order. I have seen a fuel pump PRC7020 offered at a significantly lower price but I am not sure if it would be suitable. What I would like to ask is whether I should need to worry about the reliability of my current fuel pump and if I do is there a more cost effective replacement unit?
  10. Thanks for the feedback. Especially the link to the previous post which is the route I will try.
  11. The felt strips in the rear side windows of my 1999 110 Station Wagon need replacing. I have obtained the spares could anybody give any advice about how best to do the deed?
  12. I require the part number for the fuel pump for my Defender V8 110 Station Wagon. The model year is 1999 and was exported to Bolivia.
  13. Marco, You say "no Polybushes for me (anymore)", which I take to mean that you have had some bad experiences in the past. Would you care to amplify? Many thanks, Del
  14. Quite a few of the suspension bushes on my 110 Station Wagon are showing signs of age and are in need of replacement. I would appreciate any comments on the wisdom of replacing all the bushes with a set manufactured in polyurethane. The majority of the roads that I drive on in Bolivia are similar to those found in UK quarries and I think that the kit from Polybush in a hardness they grade as "comfort" would suit my needs.
  15. Thanks for the link, I will give it a try.
  16. I am trying to find figures for the numbers of the various models in the Land Rover range that have been exported to Bolivia.Any ideas?
  17. Thanks for the reply and the web address. The dealer was right, I checked my records and I had dropped a digit.I must admit to being somewhat taken aback when I checked back with dealer and was quoted £375 including VAT!
  18. I own a Defender 110 V8 Station Wagon in Bolivia. The vehicle was imported new by the US Drug Enforcement Agency in January 1999 and the VIN is SALLDHMV8XA15982. I am currently in the UK and I would like to buy a spare fuel pump. I have contacted my local LR dealer but they are unable to help because they do not recognise the VIN, apparently it should have six numbers for the chassis number instead of the five I have. Can anybody help me with a part number for the fuel pump?
  19. Can anybody help me with a wiring diagram for my '99 Defender V8. It is a LHD export model built in the UK and exported to South America. The VIN is SALLDHMV8XA159828.
