  1. Except a 3.9 is a bored out 3.5 (might have a longer stroke too, can't remember for sure but don't think it has)

    4.2, 4.6 etc are stroked 3.9's

eeerrrr not what they told me in the factory , same block on both of them.

Made my self look an idiot when asked them how they knew which was which block only to be looked at strangley and told they are the same but the stoke is differant

  2. apart from Galvanising it

Any ideas what is the best paint to use on the rear cross member to stop it rusting and lasts more than 12mths before it has to be recoated?

Get it painted like this and it won't rust. Ours was done 26 months ago and still looks like this today

as you can see it is still fine

  3. First post on the new forum, and it's a correction ;)

The N/A and Td are not a bored out version of the 2,25. Instead, a new crank made the stroke longer. Which in turn also added some more torque and stamina compared with the old 'un.

Am i right, or am I right? B)

Yeah ok you are right same as the 3.5 V8 and The 3.9 V8

  4. I have got the general impression that these are to be avoided, but would a new TD (Turners) engine stand up to offroading sufficiently to warrant consideration?

Apparently there are bills for ~£2.5K+ for engine & fitting, & the whole truck (F plate 90) is being offered for £3K, with MOT & warranty.

The Td's were a good engine untill they got to about 70,000 to 80,000 then they juts gave up. Main reason is they are the 2.25 diesel bored out to the 2.5 diesel N/A and then they decided to wack a turbo on it. So they go for so long and then go bang. I have know loads of people who have had this problem and they have had the truck fixed and no problems later. So if the engine has been done then i would go for it as it sounds ok to me. But remeber it will be slower than the TDi but there again you get what you pay for

Buy it if you have problems with the engine then swap it for a tdi later

    PS

was arguing with a chap a while ago who told me he had done 75,000 mile in his TD with no problems and the engine was going strong, and i was talking carp. Saw him 6 months later in the garage where he was having his engine rebuilt at 81,000 miles. I am sorry but i had to laugh

  5. Does anybody know if there is a Ford "export" agency that do the sort of thing for Fords that the likes of Conrico do for Land Rover i.e. sell them to parts of the world where there is no dealership network and preferably at a knock down price?

I have been asked at work to get some quotes for some Ford Transits for the company fleet but I can't immediately locate any such organisation from Googling, just wondered if anybody knows of one?

    TIA

Don't know but can see the transit factory from my study window if that helps :D

  6. Nigel

The way i have always wanted to do it but never got around to is

Go to a Yatch chandlers and they have heavy duty battery cut of switchs (which all boats use)

They have 4 positions, Off, battery 1 only, Battery 2 only, Or Both batterys

They are used on boats for you have them off when not on the boat, and both to start and charge, and 1or2 onlyfor when in port and using all the elctrics but with no engine running

Easy to wire up and nice switch as well,

Give them a look at and i think you will be impressed

Cheaper and better in my mind than some arty farty spilt charge system

  7. Ok
