  1. I was looking at exactly these on eBay earlier Ian. Has anyone got any views on the reputation of the supplier - are they reputable ? Use quality components ? Thanks Rob
  2. Thanks Ralph Any advice on my other questions. Rob
  3. Hello All I need to fit a new clutch to my 200Tdi. Can anyone recommend a supplier please and give me the part numbers. I'm wanting to put a heavy duty one in - after searching on here it looks like Valeo is the make to go for with a 130 friction plate. I'll also be doing the rear crank seal - I'm guessing this has gone leading to the slip - what's the part number please ? Oh, and I will need a HD clutch fork. Opinion - engine out or gearbox dropped back ? Thanks Rob
  4. Can you PM me some details Curly please. What's the rattle at 2300rpm ?
  5. Doh ! Just read the earlier post in the thread. Your Disco looks great but a bit too expensive for us unfortunately.
  6. Does that mean you're selling one Chris or have you already sold it ?
  7. Thanks everyone. Mind made up - we're going to get one. I can carry out any of the work on the suspension if need be, but obviously would like it get one that doesn't need work immediately. So now we need to sell the people carrier and start the search.
  8. Hello All I've done a search on buyers guide for Discovery TD5 but only found one from 2006. Could someone point me to a more up to date guide or offer some advice/opinion please. I've decided to change my wife's Seat Alhambra ( great car, owned for 6 years ) for a TD5 Discovery. I'm more interested in the facelift model - which is the best spec to go for ? When I had my V8 300 Disco, my wife wasn't a fan of the handling - I believe the A.C.E gives much less less body roll on a TD5 - is this right? What are the particular things to look out for ? Auto or manual ? Pro's and cons? Had a mate with one a while ago who had to replace the flywheel with the clutch, led to a big bill - is this common ? Will £5k get me a decent one ? Does anyone know any decent ones for sale ? Thanks for any help Rob
  9. Thanks Harry Yes, sorry I meant to say the square plastic Discovery one. Could you PM me with the price please - just what I'm after. Don't suppose you've got a K&N for it ? Thanks Rob
  10. Yes I know some people hate them, some love them. I've had them fitted to numerous vehicles I've owned, including high performance bikes and never had any problems. If they were really that bad, would they be still be trading so successfully ? and imitated by so many. Like you say, don't want to open that can of worms again - I like them and will be fitting one
  11. I can't fit a 300tdi air filter housing to my 200tdi ? The reason why is, I want to fit a K&N filter and the flat panel ones are about half the price of a 200 round one ! No problem relocating the housing as I'm bringing the snorkel in from the drivers side as opposed to the normal passenger side on a 200 - this is due to the full cage I've just fitted and the Safari one no longer fitting. Has anyone got a 300 housing they want to sell ? Also, what's a genuine Safari Snorkel worth for a 200tdi ? It won't have the Safari top as I'm keeping that, it will come with a mushroom top, freshly blasted and powder coated ? Thanks Rob
  12. Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm not sure on what paint it is, I got it with the vehicle when I bought it - just in a 2.5litre white tin. I don't have any fancy spray gear - just a compressor and a cheap spray gun that comes as part of one those 5 piece sets. I'll rub them down and give it it a go. I could post up the results if anyone is interested ? If nothing else it'll give you a chance to mock my efforts :-) Cheers Rob
  13. Hello All I've done a search on here for advice on NATO paint. Opinion seems divided on spraying, rollering and brush painting. I'm just about to fit side panels with windows ( and external cage) and want to paint them before I fit them. If I was to spray them do I need to prime the panels first or just rub down with Scotchbrite pads and spray with the NATO paint ? What ratio thinners to paint do I need ? Any top tips? Thanks Rob
  14. Hi Lee It never slipped before it was laid up for a little while, so I'm guessing oil contamination - a quote would be great please - Thanks Thanks - would that be using quality parts ? VAT would have to be added - unfortunately ! I priced a Valeo 130 clutch and heavy duty arm for £115 - does anyone know if that can be beaten ?
  15. Well, I've chilled out a bit now. I do realise half the fun is keeping them going - although it would be nice to drive it for a while instead of crawling around underneath it. Anyhoo - what would be a rough price for having a clutch fitted ? I'm capable of doing it myself, but time is a bit of a premium at the moment - that said, if it's too expensive I will do it myself.
