  1. Hi Chris,

You are absolutely right in your statement that on soft boggy ground with no bottom within reasonable reach the ruts etc will get deeper, but this is true with any vehicles driving over it, in the past we tended to stop if we were very stuck and go elsewhere but now the new breed of competition says proceed at all cost to ground! Is this the tyres fault? If on green lanes, we should keep off. If on the other hand organisers wish to make an event across similar ground then a vehicle with smaller wheels grounding out and being stubornly draged across it will definately cause more damage than just tyre rutts. I think it is for all of the organisers to think on this matter when inventing sections, We as organisers of ourselfs must think also.

The deep ruts as seen on the Ladoga will as Dolly says collaps in on themselfes very quickly, the softer the ground the faster this happens, Its like building a tall jelly "it can't be done above a sertain hight as the walls can not support it" Still makes a mess though :P

  2. Lara, We have Hills over here :lol:

It was the tc when in deep mud that I was wanting to improve, which I did by fitting EBC brakes a long while ago.

What do you mean no hills,

I drove up a 1:10,000 Belgian mountain the other day no problem :lol:

Went up to give my marbles a nudge on their way down

  3. What tyres do you lot have???

I have std vented discs with traction controll/ABS and when the abs is not working I can easily lock up all 4 wheels with either 265/75/16s or 35x13.5x16s with good grippy tyres too :blink:

Makes me wonder if you lot drive on glue :D:D

  4. Hi Will,

If you have been quoted 500 GB pounds each shaft in Maraging 300 then go and buy them fast, I have good cotacts in the matal supply industry and just the material cost me 1500 GB at trade price! Heat treatment is very very critical and secret squirrel for Maraging 300, I used contacts in F1 and that cost almost 500 pounds GB.

Then the shot peening on top, without even thinking about machining costs.

My shafts cost 3500 pounds for the set of 4.

Make sure the people making them for you are not talking about M300 wich is also very strong but in no way compares to Maraging 300, I talked to a lot of so called experts before having mine made and so many people who should have known better were saying M300 in the same breath as Maraging.

Quote BS S162 instead for Maraging (M300 is BS S155) and also ask for the offcut stamped end to make sure.

For info, Dave Ashcroft was the only Landrover gear supplier that I spoke to that knew what Maraging realy was. Nuf said.

  5. Forget all the p-----n about with calculations etc,

Have a look at mine, (details on the readers rides page) it is 90mm diameter 2mm stainless tube and flows 1058 CFM of air tested on my flow bench, If your engine needs more than this then I take my hat of to you sir.

    Good luck,

    Lara.
