  1. It does take a bit of time to get up to the injectors, if you loosen one of the pipes at the pump end you will be able to tell if the injection pump is doing its job. The lift pump will put the diesel up into the injection pump but it will require the injection pump to take it past that point.

If it is pumping through the injection pump it will go upto the injectors but will take a few turns to get it there.

    All the best for 2015

  2. A lot more than I would pay but they may be good.

Only thing I would say if you do buy them is to read the fitting guide - I have fitted quite a lot of LED lights over the last year and found that the black wire on some of them is the positive and not earth like a normal light, they are not all like this but do check.

  3. I take it that it was running before she sat for a while.

Are you getting fuel upto the injectors and just not to the spill pipe.

If there is fuel to the injectors and you have good compression she should run if the timing and valves are set OK.

As you never said if you changed any of these things then I take it that she was just sat for a while.

It may take a while for the fuel to get from the injection pump up to the injectors and get all the air out.

Loosen the injector pipes at the injection pump first just to make sure it is pumping then tighten these and move to the injectors and do the same there.

    Good luck

  4. I used stuff called fatmat when I rebuilt my Defender over 3 years ago, it is bitumen based but I have had no stink from it.

I fitted it to the engine side of the bulkhead and also under the floor and its still all there and in tacked.

In fact nearly all parts of the Defender was covered in the stuff and its been great.

My Defender is a commercial so I also have 25mm kingspan on the side panels then a sheet of thin plywood and that is covered in carpet.

All in all this keeps the noise out and heat in.

  5. Had another look today but have given up, the Parrot unit wont connect via bluetooth and the screen does not work, well I did get it for nothing.

The units are bulky and would be hard to get all that kit behind the stereo so I have decided to just buy a bluetooth stereo instead.

Thank you for all yer help though.

  6. Got a bluetooth dongle and am going to check the voltage in the morning and see if the red box was for the Merc, I may see if I can bin that part if all the other bits go together.

Will update it if I can get it to connect. I am sure the plug in the back of the display is OK but will check again.

Sadly I have stuck the display to the dash already with double sided sticky tape but it will come off with a good pull.

  7. No I have not been able to connect to the unit as yet - its just sitting in the Defender with all the wires hanging out just now.

Did try and pair with my iphone today but phone never found the Parrrot sadly, will try again in the morning and hope it will be a bit warmer - 2 deg today.

  8. I bought a second hand Parrot CX 3100 from a Merc Sprinter and am in the middle of fitting it to my 1995 Defender but I can not get the display to work.

The unit came with the blue box or tricks + another box which is red, looking at kits I have not seen one with the red box and wondered if I need it or not ?

When the unit is powered up an LED in the red box flashes about 5 times then stops.

    Any help would be great.

  10. I used a roller blind or parcel shelf cover, got it at a scrap yard and fitted it to the rear bulkhead behind the seats and fitted a hook to the roof.

You can put it up in winter or whenever and it keeps the heat in the front and also blocks people looking at what is in the back, I have heavy tint on back window.

You just need to find one the correct width.

    Work a treat.

  11. Had the same fault a while back, fitted new belts - silence but only for a very short time,

Replaced crank shaft pulley but that did not work.

    Still noise.

Replaced tensioner pulley with a second hand one.

    Still noise.

Replaced bearings in tensioner pulley and noise did get less but it started shredding belts.

Well to cut a long story short, The tensioner pulley bearing had seized before I replaced them and when I fitted the new bearings things seamed tight but the seized bearings had caused the shaft to wear in a slight taper and when it was under load it pushed the belt to one side, this made it rub on the other pulleys and rip bits off.

Bought a new tensioner pulley and the belt has been fine since and even better than that no more noise.

  12. When I did my one I did rin it through the chassis and it was the origonal loom, I did put the whole loom inside a lenght of rubber pipe to stop the rubbing.

It was a right pain in the a**se to do but I know it will never rub through and it will (or should) last for ever now and there should be no chance of damage.

  13. Hi I have been running 35" tyres for the last 3 year but towing a trailer has been a right pain.

It takes so long to get up to speed and struggle to get out of third gear.

I always thought it ran better on 33" and the speedo with this size tyre ran spot on so decided to go back to 33".

Changed them back yesterday and I am happy - I get up to speed a lot quicker and the engine does not sound like it is strugling as much.

I am going to stay at this size now, still 12" wide and I have only lost 1" in overall hight.

Just thought I would share my thoughts.

    Happy days :i-m_so_happy::i-m_so_happy:

  14. They use 2 solenoids switching live and earth to change direction I think, it is fitted to a mates truck and I can not find a makers name on it. It started spooling in regardless of which button you pushed - any info on how these are wired would be great.

As said there are only two posts on the winch motor which I find strange and no other signal wires.

Do they switch the live between the two posts and use the winch body as an earth ?
