  1. Hi Gev Sounds like the earth isn't connected. You usually find that cables break because of the doors being opened all of the time, and they just eventually go. Try holding a piece of wire from a good earth on the car, to a good part of the rear door. Hinges wont necessarily make a good earth as people are known to lubricate them with oil/grease which insulates the door from the rest of the vehicle. Good starting point, and would be a cheap fix. Paul
  2. I think the cost could generally be calling its use into question. It is supposedly a superior oil and will not break down as readily. Don't know what to do, but may try it and see what happens. As mentioned, BMW recommend for turbo Diesels, and this is what the TD4 is.
  3. Hi Jason. I don't know who LR fit as standard equipment, but I would ring one of the many independant LR specialists such as Steve Parker in Rochdale, and find out who they use. He would be able to supply as well. He is very helpful. Hope this helps.
  4. I can get this stuff at half price form a wholesaler, so can do my Freelander oil change for £40.00 using Fully Synth, supposedly the best oil in the world, on my 04 TD4. I know what LR spec is, but Mobil exceeds A3/B3 anyway, so anyone come up with a legitimate reason not to use it?
  5. According to what I can find out, for ever! Still worth a check though. Looks like it can be took apart, so when i've got the courage, may split it to find out. Could be that it could be cleaned with carb cleaner or WD, so theoretically it ould last for ever.
  6. Dave If you have bought just the cyclone filter from BMW to replace the sponge filter, then there should be one O ring and two seals with tabs on for the housing. Should be the same for the complete unit as well. Paul
  7. Thanks Mark. Just doing it now and stopped for a cuppa. Taking bolts out and coppereasing them as I go. 5 out so far. Got to be done so perceverance, plus gas, and a breaker bar is the order of the day.
  8. Hi everybody I have just joined the ranks of LR owners, and have used my Japanese beast which had served me well but had started using as much oil as petrol(yes petrol). Got an 04 Freelander and I love it. I will be doing as much work as I can on my own. Have changed the crankcase breather filter to the new better BMW cyclone type. Need to drop the oil and change the filter. How many bolts should there be on the splash pan? Haven't got right under but can only see 2 bolts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  9. Hi everyone. You don't need to buy the full part at £42.00. I bought the cyclone part yesterday at Williams BMW in Manchester. Cost of £21.60. Part no. B11.12.7.799.367. Came with cyclone part, o ring for bottom of cyclone, and two new seals for unit. Fitted last night. Easy enough job. just replaces old filter. This is the same price as the sponge filter. No contest. Independant BMW mechanic who was in parts dept. said this is the only bit they fit. Hope this helps.
